I can't remember if it was in his movie or when he was doing his movie promo circuit that Al mentioned he and Tipper have a Lexus hybrid (400h) and there are some Prius' in the immediate family..

I don't think anyone wants a party thrown. But as much as the actual environmental and fuel saving benefit is small the influence of a high profile individual choosing to drive a hybrid is large on the general public. And, because of that, some praise is deserved. He's trying to set an example..."hybrids are good enough for me and they're good enough for you."

We have expectations of high profile people to be role models, fairly or not. Sports stars using steroids create huge public expenses and congressional hearings b/c of the 'example' they're setting for our children. The actual impact on our daily lives from the actions of those individuals is very small. But the potential to influence behavior, because of their high profile, is very large.

Similarly, a positive behavior (ie choosing to drive/ride in a hybrid instead of a large gas guzzler) by a high profile individual has the potential to positively influence behavior in others. Now, our nay-sayer Clinton-hating contingent might not be influenced fearing doing so would be some sign of weakness. But, perhaps, some folks who were unfamiliar with hybrids, were skeptical about hybrids, or were on the fence about hybrids would/will take a closer look and give them more serious consideration b/c of Clinton's choice. Maybe some of those will even look at the Escape or Mariner Hybrids and force the new Ford CEO to reconsider the cut-back in their hybrid commitment. Maybe Ford will even more forward more strongly with hybrids in the future.

Maybe they won't, but certainly the chance that they would would be much smaller if someone like Clinton didn't consider a Ford hybrid.

And let me tell you, I am aware that there are republican congressment/women w/ hybrids and I've never been critical of them at all. Anyone promoting and supporting this technology gets a positive nod from me for that behavior regardless of their political affiliation or motives.

My comment regarding Clinton being a little late and republicans are driving hybrids was more sarcastic than anything else, and certainly not directed and any individual. But there are groups of certain polictical persuasions that would/do poo poo any green actions by conservatives as either, "nothing but PR" or "not enough."

You can have it. Clinton is a great humanitarian and driving a hybrid Mariner proves it.

You are absolutely right. Actually, you are absolutely half right, because the left in this country is as bad or worse about vitriol against the sitting president and the GOP. The polarization in this country is a two way street.

Way to generalize and subtly accuse evan of being a Bush-bashing lemming  ...

Any discussion about Clinton seems to lead some people to turn around and accuse somebody about bashing Bush, and any discussion about Bush leads to the same people turning around and blaming Clinton.

    Hows that for a generalization?

He did not say he INVENTED it... He said (trying to take credit for it obviously) (and this quote is the first line in the quoted remarks on snopes.com )
" During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. "

    What a Goober!

Of course he is like most politicians, trying to take credit for something that most people think of as a good thing..... He had no more to do with cresting the internet than I did.
