Using 277Vac instead of 120Vac reduces the current drawn by lighting fixtures by over 50%, enabling smaller gauge (lighter) and lower cost wiring. Alternately more lighting fixtures can be connected to a 277Vac feed than with a 120Vac feed. Power losses in the wiring is also reduced (P=I2 x R).

Not that the existing circuitry can provide a large draw, but wouldn't there necessarily be a need for step down transformers? After all, many street lights run on 277V ..... presuming slow/overnight L1 charging?

I have a suspicion that it also can't pull enough power to directly feed a level two charger, that instead it trickle charges from the lighting circuit until the proprietary battery is full, and the battery is able to hold enough juice to charge up a car or two promptly.

I think that if put into continuous service it would run out after a few cars and drop down to the equivalent of a level one charger(?) until it was able to take a break and charge itself back up.

I have seen fire trucks that have little lights on the side, they look like a stack of horizontal bars. It turns out that anybody who walks by can glance at that stack and read how full the water tank is. I think the beamspots may need to incorporate this into their design, so you can just drive by without stopping when it is out of juice.

I also don't understand what algorithm it would use to decide if it should fill up the battery right away from line voltage, so as to be ready quickly, or if it should wait a day or two and use the wind/sun to charge up that battery.

P.S. I just wrote to the company and asked for a copy of the installation instructions and user manual. If they'll send these I should be able to get a definitive answer to some of our questions.

Yeah, I'm thinking the solar/wind only charge up the battery. Other lamp post chargers are deployed to provide overnight charging for those without access to it at home. The battery allows this to do some faster charging.

The site only has renderings of the charger. Don't expect much technical info from them.

Maybe not for Europe, where residential supply is three phases, and the plug ins have chargers for that.

Welp, I asked for the installation guide and owners manual. I got nothing. This suggests that they don't exist, which in turn suggests that at this point the beamspot is just a fantasy. It's a pity.
