Battery Power for Lawn equipment -- is it time?

^^^ that is exactly the situation I am trying to prevent. That's why I nearly always default to electric tools, though not always cordless. I maintain 3 small engines, and that's enough thanks!

 

The post implied that buying anywhere else but greenworks.com voids any warranty but it turns it he got his tool from eBay. If you purchase from any authorized retailer (Lowe's, Costco, Tractor Supply, etc) you still get the warranty. It is kind of crappy they don't offer a transferable warranty. Unfortunately those limits aren't uncommon these days. And I suppose it can make sense if they're concerned about using residential tools for commercial purposes (of course you could help yourself a bit better by not slapping "pro" stickers on your residential 60v and 80v product lines...)


So far I've been quite impressed with the 60v tools and riding mower. I got the 16" chainsaw this week and it did great on a fallen down maple in my yard. Cut the whole thing up into 2' logs and trimmed the branches in less than an hour all on a 2.5a battery. My echo 14" gas saw struggled with just the thicker branches.

 

10+ years ago, I don't think there was any electric power washer affordable that could do the job required. I paid ~$300 for it then IIRC. For the same cost, I can now get a more powerful and fuel-injected plus throttled gas-powered power washer. I just checked Home Depot for an electric power washer. The only one that exceeds the spec of this 10+ years old gas-powered RIGID power washer with 3000 psi, 2.6GPM is this one.

No, I am not going to buy it for the cost of $2899.

 

Power washers that are designed to run cold water through them - I wonder if any can handle picking up hot water out of a utility sink. Would love to be able to hot water wash salty sludge off the bottom of the car in winter time before pulling into the garage, where sludge drips onto the slab, freezes, & destroys the integrity of the slab.

 

As long as your tap hot water is not exceeding 140F, using "warm" water in a cold water power washer should be fine. I don't own or never used a hot water pressure washer. I know they are very expensive. And as I understand it the hot water pressure washer heats up the supplied cold water all the way to 311F in the machine before spraying it. Yeah, that temp is higher than the boiling water, meaning it is pressurized high temp water.

I have installed a hot-and-cold frost-proof faucet on the outside wall of my house several years ago. I have used hot water out of this faucet feeding to my cold water pressure washer many times without seeing any ill effect. Our home domestic hot water heater is set at 120F, so the hot water out of a faucet is less than that temperature. According to this article and many others, I've Googled, it is fine to use "warm" water up to 130-150F in a cold water pressure washer.

You must keep in your mind that hot water pressure washers are specially designed for use with hot water only. A cold water pressure washer simply can never handle hot water. Most of these can only work with a water temperature of one hundred and forty degrees and below.​

My third year with the Ryobi riding lawn mower. The meter is junk and not working. It doesn't mater, however, because I have the 100 AMP model and my lawn is only a third of an acre.

I bought the 100 AMP model, because lead acid batteries have longer lives if they are never close to completely drained. Mine never gets drained bu even 40%.

 

They went with Li-ion recently.

 

A 50cc 2-stroke (2.5hp) backpack blower at best only move 600 cubic feet of air per minute. That's just enough to clear a walkway. Trying to clear a lawn with that is like spitting in the ocean. Leaf blowing on a lawn starts at 7 horsepower and you go up from there. That would be about 2000 cubic feet per minute of air movement. Getting something too small is a waste of your time and your time is worth more than the device. Here's a video that compares them so you can see it for yourselves. I have a postage stamp property and I have a seven horse ground blower just to clear the front yard

 

For that many leaves, maybe a rake?
But if you really want to just blow them, how about a helicopter?

mine only goes down a bar or two after an hour. is that because it is inaccurate?

 

Raking my front yard takes one person 7 hours. Even with gloves you will have blisters and mosquito bites and regret the whole experience instantly

Yes, the kit is $129, not $54, but contains a compact HP impact driver ($99 tool only but can buy at $89 as a single tool kit with a battery and charger and bag), two 1.5ah batteries ($69/each if purchased separately) and charger (~$30), and a carrying bag. If you don't have an impact driver already, it is a must-have hand tool. I use it far more often than a drill. I use to use the drill as a driver and always ended up stripping the screw heads. With an impact driver's slow RPM high torque, it is designed to drive the screw better than a high-speed RPM drill.

You will miss great deals if you avoid dealing with the big box store. But I guess, you have your priorities. I understand. But especially for Ryobi tools, IMHO, there is no other place you can get a better deal than Home Depot. I basically get free batteries from them every year when they have a sale with free tools or batteries with a purchase of a kit. I buy a kit and get to choose a free tool or extra batteries and return the kit I don't need... keep the free battery or tool. This is completely legal going by their return policy.

 

Rather than getting the bare drill at $54, I'd get this set.
