Although this of course will work (and I do it all the time), to get an insurance discount for DRL's they can not be defeated - that is they must ALWYS go on when the car is running. So, will the proposed solution work?
    Thanks.

The "proposed solution" being discussed is not for DRLs, which are on all the time - it is for Automatic headlights, which turn on automatically at night, and shut off automatically during daylight. Rachaelseven's post was intended to remind someone that the lights are already auto-off in every car - so they can be used as DRLs, in a sense. And since they can be shut off, I wouldn't think you can get an insurance discount for using regular headlights that way. It would be kind of like telling an insurance company you have an alarm system, which consists of you sitting up all night watching the door...not exactly what they intend...:)

Can anybody that has Generation 3 Prius with auto headlights/DRL to post pictures, so we can see how headlights look?

I believe that auto headlights go in pair with DRL-at least this is the way Toyota has them in other models....

    Thanks!:)

Your mods look great. What did you use to secure the felt? Just cut and stick? Also, where did you mount the radar detector - pictures?

I just got my 545T Night Lite today & just came across this thread. Mine is going into a 06 GenII. I have a few questions:

    1) Anyone know if the GenII is pos or neg switched?
    2) Anyone install this in a GenII & have the correct wires/pins I need to tap into?
    3) Can the OEM light sensor be used instead of the sensor that comes with the kit?

does the Gen III mod II have the light sensor? there is something on the right side of the dash, but doesn't look like a sensor to me.. more like a plug..

That is a sensor. All the Gen III's have it. The cover is hard to see through but at some angles you will the circuitry inside. There are two sensors in this package the infrared heat sensor is used by the AC. The light sensor, which is not connected in US cars, is used for Auto head lights and dimming the dash panel based on lighting conditions.

I'm interested in jayvee's mod and have a couple of questions.
    Is the sensitivity adjustable?
Where to purchase the CN stalk?
Are the stalks interchangeable with other US Toyotas? If so what year/model.

The sensitivity for turn on/off of the headlights themselves is not adjustable (at least not that I can find.) Only the day/night mode of the instrument panel, NAV, etc. is adjustable through dealer-programmable settings - see Sec 6.2, page 591 of the owners manual. However, it's possible that this may also control the headlight on/off when in true "Auto" mode - I haven't confirmed this (never thought to check). I think they may be "linked".

The cheapest I found the stalk is on parts.com ($93). But toyotapartsoutlet.com often has free shipping promotions (as they do right now, for August).

The stalk also appears to be used on the Rav4, Tundra, and Sequoia - not sure what else, or which country (parts sources don't identify the country of use) but a dealer should be able to tell you for sure, based on the part number.

How do Canadians adjust the sensitivity? Where's Tideland when you need him?
Is the CN stalk plug and play? Is it a direct replacement?
I have the V with ATP. is 84140-07141 the right part?
When I was searching for 84140-07141 I often get results for Highlander, RX350, IS250 and IS350. I sometimes also get 84140-48200 replaced by 84140-07141 as search result.

Other than the wiring changes described in the rest of this thread, there were no other mods to install the Canada stalk on my US IV. I can't imagine the V is any different. The connectors are the same; it's just the wires/pins that may not be in place. I believe that the 84140-07141 may indeed have been superceded by the 84140-48200. A quick call to the dealer parts dept will confirm this.
