Someone can make some money selling pre cut adhesive felt for the 2010 Prius. Once you make the first set it’s easy to duplicate.

I would have paid $40 for a pre cut set for the glove box, the box above it, the change tray and the center console box. It takes a long time to make the paper templates.

Everything is working great. It took about 2 hours because I had a hard time routing the light sensor. This is where I wound up putting it.

Thanks hawkmoon77 for the great instructions, they helped a lot. I never found the black wire you used for 12V. I found another constant 12V source.

hawkmoon77 did you ever find a factory switch that you can put in the empty switch area that looks like a factory switch? I would like to put the disable switch there.

My next project will be fog lights. I might wait on those. It does not seem like there is a good set out yet. I will not be getting HID lights. I am perfectly happy with the $11 halogens that are in there.

Hey that looks great! Do you have any hints for how you ran the wire to the sensor? Did you route it or did you have to pull the whole dashboard?

post 146 of the fog light installs, shows a kit with a switch that would look good for this. Does anyone know if the V in Canada has auto head lights on the head light switch and if it is wired so we could use it to control.

I will post some pictures with more detail on how I ran the wire tomorrow. I did not remove the dash.

Here is a pic of the unit in post 146.

It looks like a good fit. The color is a little off. That comes with the kit. Does anyone know a part number off a web site just to order a switch like that? I can paint it and put ‘Auto Lights’ logo on it.

Yeah, it's all in the fog light thread. I ordered the 45 dollar kit that has a compatible switch included. The fogs install will cost about a hundred bucks, but i threw in an extra 90 bucks for the headilght stalk which will give me the switch from the fog light kit left over for the auto headlight.

I'm glad the install went well. I am thinking about modding the unit to provide an adjustment for the light sensor sensitivity. It goes on just a bit early for my tastes due to the UV glass. All I would need to do is use one 10 cent resistor, and one 50 cent variable resistor. The resistor would be in series with the sensor wire, and the variable resistor would be in parellel. I just need to calculate the values. The mod will also not interfere with the install in anyway because it would be done at the point where the sensor wire connects to the main unit.

    Jeez... now I'm mod'ing mods.

Having come from a less expensive Toyota that had auto on/off headlights, I'm still scratching my head as to why they're not on the Prius.

I just went to Toyota's main website and it says that auto headlights are standard options on the II, III, and IV. So, where is the switch on my stalk? I don't see it! Are we being hoodwinked by Toyota?

No auto-on. Only auto-off (delay time selectable by technician in customization menu of Techstream tool). No switch required for auto-off... just goes with the ignition.

Isn't it only auto-off if the driver side door is closed first? Or is it auto-off no matter what? If that's the case, I'll just leave my headlight stalk in the on position at all times.

I believe the auto-off is only concerned with the ignition, and not the doors. But you could RTM and I'm sure it would tell you.

OK, so I had the dealer set mine to 0 seconds instead of 30 and now, when I "OPEN" the driver side door after pushing the power button, the lights turn off automatically. This is what I want because I park in my garage at night and my garage has an auto light that stays on for a few minutes after you close the garage door. No sense wasting Prius battery for this. If I lived in an apartment complex, however, this would be nice to have set at 30 seconds or so because I could leave the stalk switched to ON and then have that time to use the Prius lights to see too my door at night.

When you leave the stalk setting to ON the Nav and display lights are dimmed though when you start the car in the morning so you have to turn the lights off in the morning to have the NAV screen and displays not be dimmed!

Turn the wheel that controls dash lights PAST the click. It will leave dash lights on bright all the time.

Keep us updated on the resistor project. Your right it does turn on way to early. It was cloudy yesterday and my lights kept going on and off.

ok, just finished the mod this weekend, works great! however i have some comments.... The black wire that hawkmoon77 talked about in his instructions..Couldn't Find! So judgeless..your bad for not mentioning the wire you used since you couldn't find the wire ether! I couldn't find any other constant 12V source so i used the fatty white wire going into the front of the ECU. Now for the sensor, I couldn't uderstand why you couldn't put it into the center of the dash... with a small screwdriver I was able to put the sensor in the center of the dash and then with the screwdriver push the wire back behind the dash, and run the wire to the speaker hole and down... worked great!

and one quick question for Hawkmoon77, If i did want to use the orange wire were would I connect it??

I don't know much about the alarm system. I gave the wiring diagrams a quick look, but couldn't find anything.

I am sorry I did not post it. It bugs me when people do not share their finding. For the next guy here is a pic.

The connectors are very close to the driver door sill. The red wire is contant power, the blue wire is accessory power. I used accessory power for my radar detector.

    Here are the promised pictures.

Push the felt cover in and you can push a wire down the crack. Then reach under the dash and grab the wire. Then router the wire down the side of the speaker. You do not need to remove the speaker. Then run the wire below the window and put the wire in the center of the dash. I moved it after reading cuban2's post.

    Hey!

Neat wire taps! Where did you find them? I've always used these kinds, but I don't like them very much:
