I am 84 and have dealt with several insurance companies. I have never dealt with a more unscrupulous company than State Farm. They delayed me and my body shop repeatedly and then wouldn't pay for the full replacement car rental -- even though I was able to turn it in 3 days before my car was ready. Also the only parts they would approve (for a 14 month old car) were used; I.e., junkyard. Thesis just a fraction of the horror story. Oh, I was NOT working with one of their "preferred" shops. Imagine what the results would have been working with people in cahoots with the State Farm shysters. If I mentioned the name of the SF gal I was working with I feel sure she would get anice bonus.

Sounds to me the problem roots from the auto body shop. I can't believe they did not give you a quote before they start with your car. To me that would be a red flag. Shops around here need you to sign an agreement before working on your car which states that they would contact you if the fee will be X dollar amount more than quoted.
Insurance fraud is ridiculous with body shops, sometimes with the cooperation of the owners. StateFarm will not give an inch, I would focus on the body shop and make them justified the reason for the additional charge. I have never used StateFarm nor am I defending them, but I can see other insurance company saying the exact same thing if the bill came up to be over 2 times the Toyota standard. And most of the dealership labor hours is already a rip-off :cautious: Good Luck

Yes, if the shop can perform labor on your car without notifying you the costs first, then they practically can just throw any amount on there and expect you to pay for it. That sounds sketchy.

I agree - if you've done this before, dash removal on a G3 is not that bad. Yes, there are allot of parts to organize on a large table, but the extraction to get under the plate isn't that time consuming - unless you are removing EVERYTHING including AC fans, coils and module rack down to the firewall.

Why did they need to pull the dash? Did the airbags deploy?

no the airbags didn't deploy. I ended up having to pay $3000.00 dollars out of pocket from a guy running a red light and hitting me. Turns out that insurance companies will fight to the death if the accident was your fault however, if you are the innocent victim, insurance companies will half nice person your claim so that getting reimbursed from the at fault insurance is less of a headache. This is just a crappy situation that shows how awful body shops can be and what crooks insurance companies are. Fighting either will just cost me time and money I can't afford. I have my prius back at least. However the GPS isn't working so I have to starts new thread regarding that. I'm sure the body shop messed it up. Simply awful situation! :(

Sorry to hear about that, but did they (the body shop) explain why they needed to pull the dash?
