August: 18,886 Prius

OK, I might just do better if I give up discussing this. As I pointed out before, US automakers have a substantial part of their workforce in other countries (helping out foreign economies) and Japanese automakers have a significant part of their workforce in the US generating US-based jobs and helping our economy! You can’t just look at this as US vs. Foreign-based companies. The big 3 (like you said) not only have plants and employ many US workers but also sell the most here (2/3 of our economy comes from sales).

So, investing money in programs to benefit US automakers does not necessarily help to create more US jobs.

 

Well, another way to look at it is that these technologies will help reduce our fuel consumption, requiring less importation of oil. Granted some of those jobs are also on behalf of US Oil companies, but drilling for oil in OPEC countries most likely involves very little in the way of US jobs and this would be of benefit to our domestic job situation.

There is a new movie Fuel coming out (limited release), but they are using a 2008 Prius as a showcase vehicle that is a plug-in and running on Algae fuel (engine is not modified for the fuel). I'd start a new topic on this, but I have not figured out how to create a topic, maybe I have not posted enough. The link is below.

The number, type and brand of vehicles sold during the CARS-C4C
program surely has messed with the typical comparisons of this year
to last year monthly sales figures. (And they'll mess up next years
figures too.) What could that effect be?

I have searched long and hard on the 'net for a consoldated report on
who traded-in and bought what car under the CARS-C4C program.
