Attention KANSANS! Tax Warning...

    From the unending pool of wasted kinetic energy growing vastly everytime a car's brakes are used, the Prius skims energy from this normally untapped resource and uses it for alternative power.


    I also like the gravity idea and am picturing mounding up hills for all 4-way stops.


    I don't like hearing that regenerative breaking only captures energy typically lost as heat. I would hope it captures the energy typically used up slowing down your car. I could have some reading to do. I suppose it's the same thing, but it's hard to believe that much heat gets generated. Let's see, energy is never created or destroyed, oh boy.


    I'm sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I didn't start it, and well, what the heck...

    Well, I'm not sure it went anywhere, to tell the truth. I did discover that there are several others (I don't know how many) who are appealing the same issue and are further along in the process than I. If the credit is granted based on their appeals, it will automatically apply to my situation. I'm supposed to check back in 30 days if I don't hear anything. Gotta love red tape.

    The Kansas Department of Revenue has passed the issue to the Commerce Department "to determine if the Prius meets certain federal emissions standards." The revenue department didn't know which standards the commerce department was looking at. I can only assume they're talking about the federal clean air act amendments of 1990, Title II, as those are the only federal "standards" that are cited in the statute.

    They did say the question is specific to the 2005 Prius and not necessarily other model years or other hybrids.

    yeah Prius is not really an Alternative Fuel Vehicle for tax purposes. otherwise it is an Advanced Technology vehicle and a HEV...

    The Prius is not an alternative vehicle by any definition period. Your regenerative breaking example is flawed because the kinetic energy being turned back into electricity originally came from the ICE.

    The only form of fuel the Prius runs on is gasoline because that's the only external form of fuel the Prius takes. Even if you try to stretch the regenerative breaking example by saying that you could charge a prius by starting at the top of a hill, it's still flawed because the energy that was used to ultimately get the Prius where it was still came from gasoline processed through the ICE.

    I know this may look silly responding 3 years later, but the thread was revived :)
