ATF drain and fill

    I went to the dealer on Long Island, NY and they told me $300 to do it and that it's a special transmission fluid that's very expensive. First time the lady told me I have no transmission so they can't do it. When I asked her to put that in writing then she got another guy, lol

    The change is a simple drain and fill. There is no system to flush.

    The C has no panels to remove.

    A funnel into a plastic tube into the filler hole is how I did our Prius. Fill until it runs out and close it up.

    Glad it all worked out for you, OP. Its about the easiest thing to do, but until you do it the demons of doubt make it scary.

    I don't know why, but it still kind of amazes me that with all the information readily available "out there" (some) dealers either:

    1) are just plain ignorant of the facts about vehicles they're supposed to know inside and out.

    or worse

    2) blatantly lie, hoping no one will know.

    To be fair: Toyota doesn't include it in the maintenance, you pretty much have to be a...: rebel dealership. :ROFLMAO:

    I don't like the price the dealers charge vs an oil change. Same amount of labor, ws fluid almost the same price vs oil plus filter. But the price is around$80 for the oil change and up to $250 for transaxle service

    Tideland Prius, and one other I think, reported some Canadian dealerships doing it for $79.95. But yeah, that's the exception. Most places, you get an argument for starters. :(

    We changed trans fluid in our 10 Prius with 56,000 miles. Brother was the guy under the car with me giving helpful ?? suggestions and handing him tools and parts from along side. He got the oil change door open and said there is no good reason to rmove that bottom plastic panel, as their is a slot under the trans drain plug to let it run out. I had little choice but to trust his judgment on that.
    He cracked both fill and drain plug loose, then backed the drain plug out, but held it in the hole to restrict the drain flow. He was right, he got the gallon of old fluid drained with only a few drops surrounding the drain slot on the top of the panel.
    We torqued the drain plug and pumped in the 4 qts new fluid and torqued the fill plug with new seal rings on the plugs, then used a paper towel to clean up any dripped old or new fluid.
    Not a hard job at all, should be good until we trade for a hopefully fantastically improved gen 4. :)
