Looking good! I like the pre-sold sticker next to your arm :D

And by the way, whoever took that amazing photo should consider becoming a professional photographer due to the amazing camera work! ;)

I ended up buying a different manufacturer brand (the prius was over our budget since it was our 3rd car)and was tax at the full amount then the rebate is taken off. I told him about this but he said he wasn't sure about this.

I am confused what is the correct way.

For some of you that have the rebate taken off first before the tax. What line is it on the contract.

Mine is on #6-F (other - "cash for clunker program").

Got my 2010 pkg II under Cash For Clunker program today with 4.5% financing. Below is a pic of the Prius with my "clunker" 1997 Chevy Blazer with 170,000 miles on it. The check engine light came on during the drive to the dealership. :)

I had my contract rewritten today after they called me back and said they had messed up.
Originally they listed the clunker on line 6F as CARS which was AFTER the CA sales tax had been calculated. This time they didn't list the $4500 on the contract at all. They adjusted the Cash Price of the car (1A) to reflect the -$4500. This in turn reduced both the CA sales tax (1I) AND the License Fees (2A).

On top of that they gave me $125 for the scrap value (without me asking) on line 6C.

Total back to me after readjustment is $616.75.

Hopefully they did not your submit your financing to a bank yet (assuming you financed).

Its sad that we know more stuff than the dealers do :( How scary.

Considering how badly messed up my cell phone camera was at the time I think you are right! It's since been corrected. Loving this car Nick! I'm due in tomorrow after work to pick up my mats, hope they'll be ready.

Nice Timing! Good for you WW, I had a similar experience. I hadn't driven my van in about 3 weeks before driving it 75 miles to the dealer and it stuttered and smoked like crazy (something I was not expecting, it was running great when I drove it last). It seems they know they're being taken for their last ride and don't want to go willingly!

I don't want to be subsidizing anybody's purchases with tax money either, not to mention borrowed tax money. Fact of the matter is, we didn't have much of a choice in it. BUT, since the deal is already done, I got my tax money back through this deal. Thanx Ya'll... Maybe it will help people think more about how we all are taxed next time. Oh, and hate to say it, but I'll bet most of this money goes straight to Japan. Not that greening up the place is a bad thing, but I don't think it is worth another billion dollars of my kids tax money to fund it. Personally, I think the technology alone can sell itself to help make things greener. Oh, hold on, that would take people making up their own minds. I think they call that... freedom? No; smacks too much of capitalism and free enterprise. They will probably see this as successful and borrow another couple of billion to keep it going. - Just remember, Obama took your money...I only used what was available to me. :)

I paid over $20K in taxes last year and I am near the 30% effective tax bracket, so I am due to get something back. If you don't like the program, go finance another war or something. It's a voluntary program, don't use it if you don't like it. Oh yeah, I am sure your state government hates the money they generated from this program since they tax all new and used cars.

That's enough already about whether you're paying for my Prius or anyone else's. You want to complain about CARS? Go to Fred's that's the appropriate place for that discussion. You know very well there are many tax dollars going to programs individuals never get benefit from. We're talking about $1B in tax dollars that helps sell cars and get older less efficient cars off the road, gives dealers some much needed sales, gives manufacturers a shot in the arm, generates about $300M in sales taxes (even without taxing the $4500), provides scrap businesses with a load of material that can be recycled, makes more spare parts available for those who'll be keeping their current cars, etc. I know I can't think of everything.

There's gotta be SOME pet program paid for by our taxes that *you* support and there are probably a great number who oppose it but it still goes on being funded. How about taxes to suppor public schools when you don't have kids or your kids go to private schools? How about payroll taxes going to social security when you don't know if you'll ever benefit from that program? How about all the pork barrel projects that benefit ONE small town in some state and do nothing for the rest of the country just because a politician is thanking a contributor or a large constituent? How about the ENORMOUS support that goes out of our borders, for that matter? Lots of money goes to foreign aid, when we well know that corruption absorbs a great deal of it. How about military aid? How about the money we're throwing into the sand in two wars? How about the billions sent to Israel? How about NASA? When do you think you'll ever fly on the space shuttle? What about the money that went to train binladen and his gang of thugs before they turned on us? How many of those programs and the countless others did/do you support? You may think it's worthwhile, others may disagree.

I'm not telling anyone to keep their opinion to themselves, this is a free country. Just to follow basic forum etiquette, start your own thread somewhere appropriate. I'm sure it will be interesting and have a lot of readers and followers. I might read it and contribute. Just stop doing it here. /rant

I just watched a report on the local 11pm news that covered a local dealership and it's approach to the CARS program. It seems the website that all dealerships are required to register their transactions on has crashed and they are sitting on approx. 50 transactions they cannot process until the website is up and running and they are able to enter the appropriate information (and buyers cannot take ownership of their cars until they are processed). Alot of people in MA have been extra eager to process their car purchase as the state is raising the sales tax by 25% and it goes into effect on Sunday. The dealer said on the news they intend to honor the sale before the tax increase goes into effect...but...

Have any other dealers had trouble with the CARS website?

Traded my wonderful 1989 Toyota Pickup Truck, V6 4WD Automatic for my new 2010 Pruis IV (Tech Package). Got $4,500 + 250 (scraps). Also made the deadline for WA state, no sales tax, which expires this Saturday. Overall saved $3,000 by purchasing a Pruis (no sales taxs for cars that get 40+ mpg, expiring after Friday), and $4,750. Total saved, $7,750. I'm happy. This is the first car I purchased from a dealer.

Will miss ya truck. 264k miles on that baby, and was still running extremely well. Love my new baby! (^^)

Edit: Truck did 14mpg (as reported), Pruis is 50, +36 mpg improvement. Feeling good about that to. ^^

Where do I vote? Am I in the running if I had signed our paperwork and the car was at the dealer by Noon on the 24th?

As I predicted, this program is totally nuts as far as paperwork goes. We have already delivered around 40+ cars under the program. And currently have been turned down on 5 of them. The reason? The federal government doesn't like the way the Illinois registration cards look. They say it can be easily duplicated using a word processor. So now we have to take all 40+ deals to the local DMV and have them print out what the federal gov needs in order to get our money. The site has crashed many times on us as we were processing the paperwork. The site crashed many times when we were trying to register on Friday. Basically, it has been an absolute zoo here since monday morning.

But yes, sales have been brisk to say the least. Customers that had absolutely no intention of buying are now buying. Overall, everyone seems happy with the program.

FYI, there is now a "countdown" clock on the cars.gov website. As of yesterday, 160 million has been funded. No word on how much is still in house being processed. The countdown updates every 24 hours.

I knew this was gonna be a nightmare for the dealerships after reading the 136 page final ruling (for fun!) early Fri. morning before my wife woke up! Having to deal with the Fed. government paperwork machine on a semi-regular basis, I knew they had no idea what they were getting into. This was confirmed for me on Sat. afternoon when I finalized my deal with my local dealership and had to tell THEM to go get pg. 127 from Appendix A for me to sign and they gave me that "deer in the headlights" look and I was supposedly their 10th deal!

I agree DrJon. They added a WHOLE bunch of stuff that we are supposed to do before you get your money. And 99% of the dealers were totally unprepared for it. We had our first scheduled delivery on Monday morning at 8am. They didn't leave until after noon due to the increase in paperwork needed. We have even gone as far as video taping us pouring the silicate solution into the crankcase just to make sure we have proper proof that we destroyed the engine block. Technically, we are supposed to do that before you even sign the paperwork. However, logistically, that is impossible. What if you back out before you take delivery? Now you have no new car, and your old one is nothing but a very large paperweight.
