The only way your Range Rover emits 0 CO2 is if it is off.
Use oil for making stuff, using it for transportation in most cases is foolish.

 

Dubious test if the Range Rover produced 0% CO2. The very fact it's burning something, and burning triple the amount a smaller car does would indicate that it would have higher levels of CO2. You sure you're not mixing up CO on one vehicle and CO2 on the other?

And Land Rover carbon offsets eh? So they buy some certificates to show that they gave 100,000 third world inhabitants a solar powered lamp to replace an oil lamp and that'll be fine and they can continue producing gas guzzlers? Hmmm. Carbon offsetting appeared a good idea in some regards: planting forests and the like, but now it's become all merky with questionable benefits.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Some manufacturers are installing solar pv and wind turbines on the roof of their factories which help offset some of their electrical consumption.

 

The Prius fan boys don't wanna hear the truth. Range Rovers are less polluting than one thinks. Apparently less so than the Prius. HA HA HA The truth they don't want. So they try to make you look like a hater.

 

Ok, it sounds like this is just a case of a one off dodgy test then.

In general, quantifying vehicle CO2 emissions is extremely simple. So simple in fact that direct measurements are actually redundant. Average CO2 emissions are nothing more than a proxy (placeholder) for fuel consumption, and vice versa. Every gallon of gasoline contains a certain mass of carbon, and in any correctly functioning engine approximately all of that carbon is converted to CO2.

So we can calculate precisely how much CO2 is emitted purely by how much fuel is consumed, and that is 2390 g/L of CO2 for gasoline, and 2640 g/L of CO2 for diesel. Fuel consumption and CO2 production are in essence one and the same thing.

So the situation is extremely simple, if a Range Rover is to produces less CO2 than a Prius then it must get an average (full tank) fuel economy of 55+ MPG (US) if a gasoline model or 60+ MPG (US) is it's a diesel. No ifs, no buts, better fuel economy than a Prius this is the only way it can produce less CO2.

Again. More gas = more CO2 only if there are no measures for catching CO2. THERE ARE METHODS OF CATCHING CO2. They are proven and pretty cheap comparatively to a new car. You require these on all cars and the CO2 will drop more than requiring higher standards alone.
