Even w/ the soft button off, the A/C compressor would continue to run. There was a toggle in the hidden settings screen to determine whether this was linked or not, as well as to determine whether pressing Auto A/C would automatically enable the A/C compressor.

In the gen III, the physical switch will not illuminate in defrost, but as other posters have mentioned, the A;C compressor will run if above freezing temperatures, and fresh air will be forced. I learned the latter the hard way once following a smoky snow-plow - it was tolerate the smell or have fogged windshield.

My Toyota dealer, using the Toyota scan tool, changed the A/C settings on my Gen III, level IV from automatic to manual for: "Compressor Mode" and "Air Inlet Mode", which accomplishes what you want done. However, my car has automatic climate control; not sure if it will work the same on your level II, if it has manual climate control. It cost me $54.00. Another dealer wanted $100.00, so shop around if you think the cost is high. Also, the service reps at both dealers were not aware that these settings can be changed, until I provided them the pages from the service manual, which I have attached to this post. Take the attached service manual pages to the dealer. Note that I also had them change the "Foot/DEF Automatic Blow Up Function" from on to off; and, the "Reverse Warning Buzzer" from beats repeatedly to beeps once.

    Good Luck!

When you use the defrost button on the right the AC light comes on. You may instead use the mode switch to blow air from the foot and the defrost vents without the AC light coming on.

If you think that's bad, the Ferrari's A/C compressor needs to be on when the heat is on. How stupid is that? If you don't push the A/C compressor button you get no heat! Froze my butt off the first day I bought the car drove home from the dealer with the top down, I thought my heater was broken right out of the box. Read the owner's manual which was also translated wrong, didn't mention anything about turning on the A/C compressor to get heat. After checking and confirming with other Ferrari owners, the A/C need to be on....

I love when earlier posters say something can't be done and the contrary is found to be true. Now if those posters said "I think", or "I suspect" when they give their advice. Thanks Den49, I had read about this ability in Gen II as well. Now I wonder if this "disable" can be done via Scanguage or a Torque PID.

I find if one defrosts, the windows will continue to fog up after defrost button is switched off as the moisture on the evaporator caused when the defrost was on re-humidifies the air. If one can disable the A/C portion with Defrost switched on, at higher temp, then the warm air itself will defrost the windscreen as warmer air has lower relative humidity. PS. In winter defrost situations, A/C power draw is of the order of 150 to 200 watts and that's for about 10 seconds out of every minute.

A/C still comes on in foot/windscreen setting, even though the A/C LED on the button doesn't illuminate as confirmed by my Torque app. Draw is about 200 watts, 20% duty cycle, so about 40 watts average. Perhaps putting Silca Gel on the humidity sensor could help.

I have a 2013 Prius 4 with auto climate control. Whenever I turn on the heat the AC switch light comes on. It was in the 30's (Farenheit) and I thought something was wrong with the controls. Now I'm not sure. Does the AC come on in the winter with heat in those temperatures? It was not raining so I did not need defrost.
