    from faq on http://www.midohio.com/
Q: Can I participate in an open track day?
A: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course does not offer “open track days.†The Mid-Ohio School offers fifteen different driving programs and three motorcycle programs that allow you to enjoy some track time. Please visit www.midohioschool.com, or call 1-877-793-TMOS.

And I was getting all excited, I first read your message that you said they had them.

There's NO WAY an unmodified Prius can do a 1/4 mile in 16 seconds or even low 16s. I've drag raced my Z and my former Maxima before and I have a pretty decent idea of what cars of various amounts of hp and weights can acheive. For 2890 lbs, 110 hp is WAY too little to achieve that.

Someone else mentioned 18.1. That sounds about right. I'd guess mid to high 17s or somewhere in the 18s.

You missed the part where I said the mph is good enough for a 16. We don't have the uninhibited TQ to get us the 60's required to run the 16 though. My 4x4 truck used to run 16.01@85mph 2.4 60'. That is only a 5mph difference vs. my Prius at 80mph and a 2.68 60'. Motortrend measured the 2004 Prius at 17.0@80mph but since I don't know the rest of the information I cannot say how legit that number is.

    Best Run:

    Reaction Time: .071
    60': 2.678
    1/4 ET: 17.645
    1/4 MPH: 78.91

Yeah I did. What was the curb weight of your truck and how many horsepower did it have? I suspect it had a much better power to weight ratio. Also, if you were in 4WD mode, you can generally get more power to the ground than a 2WD car.

I can't wait till I can get a thursday evening off to go to Irwindale speedway now. They have a 1/8 mile strip, can't guess on time but my 5.0 Mustang Automatic turns a 10 stock. My 84 SVO Mustang ran a 17 1/4, probably has some to do with me not being able to get the little turbo off the line. Should I do a burnout by forcing off the traction control or do you think the stickiness of the track would be enough to keep the traction control from coming on and killing the engine. I will search the site and post results when I can.

My trucks raceweight at the time was 5400lbs give or take 50lbs (it was so long ago I can't remember how much stuff I removed for those runs, my normal raceweight with the turbo was 5250lbs during which I was runnign 12.33@110mph 1.80 60') The stock HP was 242rwhp. I had it dyno'd a couple weeks after racing it in stock form.

4wd vs 2wd has no bearing unless you are having a wheelspin problem. The truck stock had no ability to spin the wheels during launch so I ran it in 2wd. After the cam then later the turbo I ran it in 4wd but you do lose a bit of power that way. Now, if you go into gearing I can see where there could be a big difference. I swapped my trucks tranny from a 4L60E to a 4L80E which has a much higher first gear but better gear splits. My ET suffered horribly by about .5sec but my MPH went up by about 3-5mph.

The Prius had zero wheelspin so there was no problem getting power to the ground at all.

    Example:

Here I did not need 4wd. I didn't have wheelspin problems.

Added the turbo and 4wd was a must. Later I had to lower the front end to keep it from hopping so bad.

    Fixed the hopping.

I'm not new to racing (I've drag raced 4 12sec and faster cars now) but I am also not saying a Prius can run a 16sec 1/4mile. I'm just saying the MPH is good enough for it and it could be possible if the 60' came down. Now, can the car get a better 60'? Normally I would have an answer but this 295ft.lbs of TQ coupled to a tighly controlled computer confuses me. It has the TQ to do so but will the computer then the tires let it? lol

Here is my old race forum sig banner. I'm going back about 7years now. Hahaha

    No shenanigans!
I know I have read on this site that the Prius is limited to 107,but I have cracked 107 many times usually to 112, 118 has only happend twice.
Yes I was on a "downgrade" but I could also feel the engine downpower at 118. In other words the car wanted to go faster but the govenor kicked in limiting my speed to 118.
    The speedo read 118 MPH!
Now I know that between 50 and 75 I have a 3 MPH increase in speed reading over actual (as tested by those signs on the 15 between LA and Vegas)

I know I can get mine up to 107 --- I'll have to try it, but not on this tank --- I'm hoping to get my best MPG so far. Congrats!

Oh man, that's quite impressive! And that's with the 15" tires?

if you disconnect the abs wheel sensors, you'll lose the computer limitation of instantaneous torque. or so we've heard. (and i hope i said that right) we were gonna try it when we replaced our tires the other day, DH's buddy had the camera all ready and everything. but you can only search through techstream for the disable option for so long before you say hell with it. i didn't wanna be there all night.

so for anyone who wants to try... ;)

You got me searching in my downloaded manuals about disabling traction control and this is what I found.

To disable traction control requires the $$$$ ScanTool.

To disable VSC requires 1 wire. I'll copy and past what I found.

NOTICE ONLY DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Page 25 of the Introduction Manual...
    12. FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH VEHICLE
    STABILITY (VSC) SYSTEM
    (a) NOTICES WHEN USING DRUM TESTER
    (1) Before beginning testing, disable the VSC. To disable the VSC, turn the power switch OFF and connect SST to terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. ( This is the connector that the ScanTool or Can-View/ScanGuage hooks up to )
SST 09843-18040 ( I looked this up and it looks like a Y cable and nothing more )
    NOTICE:
    • Confirm that the VSC warning light blinks.
    • The VSC system will be reset when the
    engine is started.
    • For safety, secure the vehicle with
restraint chains while using a wheel
    dynamometer.
( B ) NOTICES OF RELATED OPERATIONS TO VSC
    (1) Do not carry out unnecessary installation and
removal as it might affect the adjustment of VSC
    related parts.
    (2) Be sure to follow the instructions for work
preparation and final confirmation of proper
    operation of the VSC system.

Now I can understand disabling the traction control but why VCS?

Also what are the potential problems associated with wheelspin on the electric motor? Is it possible to over rev it by doing this?

I can't beleive I am even thinking about this but the race junky in me is drooling over the thought of 295ft.lbs of TQ in the Prius, even if it is only to 1200 rpm. Hahaha

The electric motor speed (MG2 I think) is proportional to wheel speed and inversely proportional to ICE speed. In other words, at a constant road speed if the ICE increases in RPM MG2 slows down. This is why you can't go faster than about 43 MPH without the ICE running - if you did you would overspin MG2. Check out the flash demo on this site - it shows this very well.

If you spin the tires the ICE can't rev up fast enough to keep MG2 below its' upper limit (mostly because MG2, doing the spinning of the tires, has so much torque - though the torque is limited by the electronics to protect the battery - I have read it's limited to just over 200 ft-lbs even though it could deliver over 400). It may be that it doesn't take more than 200 ft-lbs to spin the wimpy tires the Prius comes with, so the tire friction doesn't limit wheel RPM. A "bad thing" ™ for MG2. ;)

You would probably end up with MG2 rotor guts discharged to the stator if you were unlucky. I'm not sure how likely this is, but Toyota protects against it with TCS. VSC isn't involved, as far as I know. VSC is there in case you overcook a corner etc. (uses individual brakes to keep you on the road as well as dropping power to the wheels).

yeah you can fubar the electrics by doing this... DH just wanted to put enough torque down to destroy the old tires and let off.

not that we recommend doing this, it was late and i forgot to include that part.

I've been to 109 mph a couple times in the flats but that is probably well within the error margin. BTW did a highspeed run to Las Vegas from Fresno, CA speed 75-85 mph all the way and averaged, if my memory is correct 42 mpg. The wife drove 75 about 1/3 of the distance and I drove 85 for the other 2/3's.
