Here's mine from 2 years ago. Gen 5 Wish List | PriusChat I agree with the 2.0 litre Dynamic Force but if Toyota drops the standard hybrid, then there may be no need for it. It'll be cheaper to stick with the 1.8 litre and spend the cost on the battery and motors. Here's @bwilson4web 's list Suggested Improvements for Gen-5 Prius | PriusChat
Toyota owns a stake in Subaru, so they have designers at their disposal. But do they really need them?
Toyota has lost the race, been a Prius 2 owner, a Prius 3 owner, and now a Prius 4, while I love my Prius, this will be the last, Toyota has shown they only care about sales and not support or improvement. In my case the 11 in screen was cool, but its lost a lot of apps and Toyota totally ignores it, they added Car Play in 2020, but many other manufacturers added that to older models that didn't come with it. Toyota needs to go head on heals with full electric and upgradeable things like Tesla does. My next car will be a Tesla or one of the newer models that will have upgradeable support over the long run, I'm tired of the that's it and you live with our downgrading after purchase approach.
I think it looks fine, and think that people in general are overly obsessed with how Prius looks. My hope is that they don't let styling changes intrude on functionality such as interior space and fuel economy.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the Prius hybrid will be phased out and the next new Toyota will be a BEV with solid state batteries. Had Toyota produced a BEV by now, I would have bought one this year. Due to my very low mileage, short journeys, a BEV is ideal for me so as it is I had to switch manufacturers and go with MG. I still have the Gen 4 for longer journeys,as at mid 70s+ mpg (uk) it's as cheap as going in the EV, due to the extortionate mainstream on the road recharging prices. Having said that there are some that are free and I found a couple locally at shopping venues. A couple of hours shopping got me 40 miles of charge for free today, that will last me a week or more for my general running about. Here in the uk the government are saying there will be no new ICE or hybrid cars on sale by 2035.
every manufacturer has problems, but responding to one person's belief about the many Prius cars they bought - does not alter their outlook to the Prius - just because other manufacturers "has problems too". The market is fickled. One season, the Prius C and Prius V are doing okay. Next thing you know they get the ax. Big & bigger is in, at least in the US. At the same time - socialist China (gvmnt decides what you will get) demands electric, & they're the biggest Market .... almost making the USA - not so important. Maybe there'll be a Gen 5, or maybe it to will get the axe - & only Prime will be offered, albeit a better & better version. John is probably right - that the Prius has served its purpose in electrifying & improving technology & efficiency. We'll see where Toyota goes from here. . Too late to put in your order for better features though, as manufacturers start their design work years before the product comes out. .
Eh? That’s our Subaru Impreza hatchback. Perhaps you’re thinking Forester? That’s Subaru’s SUV offering.
Here is a report of upcoming releases by Toyota in Japan. It includes a new Prius C (Aqua, probably not destined to the U.S.) and a sporty (GR tune) version of the Prius Prime, both to be appear in April. Nothing about a next gen Prius. I'm thinking that a gen 5 Prius won't likely appear until 2022 (if ever). the article is in Japanese which Google will translate (sort of): do the translation and click on the "rock solid King" article スクープ アーカイブ - 自動車情報誌「ベストカー」 They also have an article about the next gen Lexus NX coming out in the Spring of 2022, add more doubt about a next gen Prius in that time frame.
You seem to dismiss the fact that China’s Hydrogen use and infrastructure is growing and in fact maybe the better choice for China over the next few decades. Hydrogen is still a very viable source for transportation.
Wish list for Gen 5: All trims: plug-in hybrid, what Prime was this generation with increased electric range by 50%+. For Prime: BEV only, 250mi+ EPA range Don't want or need a plug? Toyota and others have plenty of options for you. Prius should remain in the lead of efficiency/eco-tech.
yep - a midnight sun type country that has excess geothermal energy - needs a place to store it. Hydrogen MAY someday BE on par with battery storage. May-be being the operative words, as it can also & equally mean maybe not. Canada hydrogen bus infrastructure has already failed, & yet - again, maybe it will be economical .... someday. Not today tho - my friend. China hydrogen infrastructure may-be growing, but it's incrementally small growth - compared to their Hydro, & battery storage. I too, hope someday that it won't be a black hole money sink. But, not sure why this all came up, since this is a Prius future-tech/features thread, why the need to bring up hydrogen. Plenty of threads on that in the fuel cell topic area. So ... any predictions for the PRIUS? .
You brought up China and electric vehicles. Do the research and you will find that China is very pro Hydrogen, and China has not ruled out Hydrogen as the primary source for transportation.
