Look up the mitubishi. The c-max is pretty darn small.

I don't think the 'regular' Prius chassis is so great for 5 adults. You can put 5 in it with one small person in the middle, but it's pretty easy to overcrowd the Prius with 5 adults. This is where the Camry has the edge - it's got that extra couple or so inches width and carrying capacity to make it more of a true 5-adult seater car. Prius v is awfully close to Camry's width/load capacity. But, for families with small children, Prius hauls 5, if they don't insist on a massive chassis for 'protection'.

Just what I want too (or two PHEV). I went Volt first as there was/is no EV CUV that we like. But we don't need the CUV for long-trip, we take the Volt. We had hopes for the RX 450h AWD, but its performance is not much better than a subrau. If there was a good 4wd Prius PHV we'd jump on it.

Had hope for the Model-X, but the release today is disappointing. It appears to be a gimmick. Gull-wings! Seriously?

For a great CUV, check out the Tesla Model X just revealed last night. Available in two years. Not cheap.

When we have to take 5 adults, we take the Venza. Even wider than the Camry, but there's no hybrid version. Its even better when the 5 of us includes my grand daughter in her car seat. When I have had 5 adults in the Prius, its a tight squeeze for the person in the middle.

I wish Toyota would hybridize the Venza. The 2.7L is a beast and a Lion HSD system would be ideal, as long as it could still tow of course.

Well, for those Volt owners looking for more interior room and find their typical trips around 15 miles would find Prius PHV a better choice. For those that take long freedom drives would want the 50 MPG on regular gas. Some will gain changing station at work and Prius PHV become a better choice.

Once the Volt owners accept that they will use gas on average 1/3 of all miles and willing to use a little more to gas to gain many benefits of Prius PHV. The benefits are midsize interior, lower cost, 3 vs 10 hours recharge time, reliability, 50 MPG on regular gas, cleaner exhaust emission, higher ground clearance, etc.

Last, there are Volt owners tired of going to the shop often to update software, battery fix, radiator coolant leak fix, check engine lights, charger problem, Battery control module failure, etc.

    Ouchy!

I think the PiP is going to start owning it as of next month. Basically, anything Prius owns the market and is king of the hill in terms of 'advanced tech vehicle' market share.

I saw at least 5 Prius' on my 3 1/2 mile trip to gym this morning.

These may be what wish was happening with the Volt, but they are all very infrequent events. Maybe that's why Consumer Reports begrudgingly reported then the Volt had the highest satisfaction of any car sold in the US, at 93%, a higher rating that your beloved Prius.

All car models have occasional issues. However I've seen nothing showing the Volt reliability is statistically different from the top of the line cars. The media has made the Volt a punching bag, but that does not make the hype reality. Funny how the 800,000 Toyota's currently being recalled for fire safety did not get much press, but a fire in a Volt weeks after its totaled get congressional hearing.

We know there were a few returned under the GM buyback offer after the fire, but not a lot (have not see a formal number). So far I am only aware of 1 person selling his Volt, and after 1 year he went for a Jag XF.. I can see people choosing a PHV over a Volt, if they still shopping, but someone would really have to have a problem to sell their new car. The guy who both the Jag sold his volt for 36K.

There are lots of good reasons for some people to choose a Prius or Prius PHV over a Volt, but can you point to a study showing the Volt's reliability or owner satisfaction are poor? If not, why are you spinning it that way?

Are you so threatened by the Volt that you have to stretch the truth to bash it? Are you so insecure you need to attack another good car to feel better about your Prius? Are you watching Faux News now? Have they begin to brainwash you?

I don't really have a strong opinion either way, but you in your own post attack the prius at least twice. If you're going to take a supposed position of superiority, it's probably best to not use those same tactics that you're bashing.

People who buy American nameplate cars know they're going to be constantly in and out of the repair shop. It's not a deterrent for them. They just see it as the price they pay for being patriotic. I bought an American nameplate car in 1976, and promised myself I'd never do it again. I broke my promise with the Tesla. Knock on wood. <Raps knuckles on head.> But Tesla is not in Detroit, and I'm betting they're different.

I think this sums it up nicely. If you are willing to burn more gas for the perceived benefits of the Pip, go for it.

There are about 8,000 Volts on the road now. Toyota is only sending us 15,000 Pips this year. All indications are this same time next year there will still be more Volts on American roads than Pips. We should be able to make some more direct comparisons on reliability, etc... by then.

God willing in 5-10 years neither of these gap technologies will be needed anymore and adequate EVs will be available to meet the same needs.

With the Volt only being sold recently (and it being more expensive), I find it hard to believe that there will be many (if any) Volt owners purchasing the Prius PHV (at least this year).

I can see the sales going the other direction, though: I can imagine someone who buys a Prius PHV and really like EV driving deciding to get a Volt that would give them a larger EV range. I think a Leaf might also be a consideration.

I think my Prius PHV will give me a great taste of EV driving yet allow me to go on my long road trips while still getting great gas mileage.

Volt hater starts a thinly veiled hate thread, that after 9 pages hasn't work, so he has to troll his own thread. ;)

    Dennis, PLEASE go drive one.

I'm a GM hater, but not a Volt hater. I drove a Volt and also a Leaf. I thought the Volt felt pretty nice to drive, and I liked the acceleration. I thought the Leaf was more comfortable, more powerful (I only drove the leaf on surface roads -- some folks have said the Volt out-performs the Leaf on the freeway) and generally the nicer car. The Leaf was definitely more comfortable for me to sit in.

What I most disliked about the Volt was not the driving experience, but the design complexity, which I do not trust as regards reliability, and the short EV range.

I thought both the Leaf and the Volt out-handled my Prius, but again I liked the Leaf better.

I can't see any Volt owners switching to PiP because of the PiP's reduced EV range, but I prefer my Prius for long road trips and my Roadster for anything up to a couple of hundred miles. (I won't plan a trip right up to the edge of my range.)

So here's one fellow who has driven the Volt, and when compared to the competition, was not impressed. I'd have bought a Volt if it has been available when I bought my Xebra back in '07. But GM waited too long, and now there are better electric cars available.

Who is considered a "hater" of Volt? All who don't sing unqualified praise seem to get lumped into that category.

Also, what is "Volt" in the first place? Are we talking the specific vehicle being offered currently or the approach in general?

Lack of detail has been a major problem on several fronts... hence this very topic requesting information straight from the source.

Pointing out facts is not the same as bashing, especially when they put the initial claims in context that discredit them. I'm not trying to nor really interested in taking a position of superiority. I'm just trying to keep the discussion focused on facts, while trying to get those posting distorted information to question their own motives for why they behave that way.

Fair enough, but perhaps if you want to keep it to facts, try not to accuse someone of being "Brainwashed", as it comes off petty even if that's not your intention.

What make you believe that I have not driven a Volt?
