Any recommendations for a great tire pressure gauge?

Can't post the link (under 5) but Longacre racing dot com has some nice and some expensive tire gauges. Purchased the magnum last year with angle chuck.

Whoa! Thanks for pointing that out, Boo! I'd not seen it before. Don't have much to lose, I'm getting me one!

There's just no way that those things make any recordable difference. And they add extra weight!

 

I just got my Accu-gage 60psi from getagauge.com. The gauge works great and I don't have to worry about batteries going dead like the digital kind. Really fast shipping, 100% satisfied!

 

Did you get a straight, swivel-angle, or right angle chuck? I'm getting ready to order one, but I want to make sure that I get one with the best fit for the Prius.

Bryan - I got the swivel version - like I said earlier, it's tight with the wheel cover, but it works!

 

Thank you everyone for the inputs. I guess I still have one more thing to resolve before I order an AccuGauge.

I like the idea of being able to add air and bleed it with the gauge hooked up to the tire. However, to do this, it looks like the EZ-Air model by Accugauge is the only model that will allow you to do this. A picture of the EZ-Air can be found by clicking here.

Does anyone have this model and can verify that it still fits, or does the plastic hub cap make the fit too tight to use?

Also...I assume that the H-series models do not clip on to the tire making them slightly more difficult to use?

That's the one I have, and I used it when I put the chek-a-spare valve extender on the spare, but haven't tried it on the other wheels yet. When I do get a chance in the next couple of days I'll report back.

EDIT- so I got off my butt and tried it on a couple of wheels. I had no issue like Indy with leaking air while clamping it on, and it seemed to fit okay, but when I removed it I did notice the wheel cover circle around the valve was marred and pitted a bit. One wheel cover was nicked in a couple of places, and the other in just one, where the edge of the clamp touches the wheel cover.

I also noticed that the gauge reads 2 psi higher than my old one, which is similar to the S-series gauges, picture attached. I'll use the new gauge when I fill the spare with the valve extender, but won't be planning on using it on the other tires. I imagine if you got a short set of valve extenders like I had to put on a Scion xB the EZ Air gauge would be just fine.

 

I just bought the 10 dollar jobby at Costco. It's a Accutire Programmable digital. Has a cool little light, seems very close to the one BlindGuy mentioned, but it hasn't said anything to me yet.

I didn't see it listed.... is there any reason this is not a good one?

Well, it looks like the AccuGauge Model H...X (H Series, straight-chuck with 11-inch hose) may be the best bet.

I had wanted the EZ-Air Series so I could add air while the gauge was connected, but as other's have noted, the "clip-on" feature on the EZ-Air chuck can make the fit tight. I also want to avoid putting valve extenders on for aerodynamic reasons. So it looks like the straight chuck on the H-Series will interfere the least. I'm also going to get the Chek-a-Spare extension. Thanks JayMan for pointing that out too.

I'll be sure to post a report once it comes in and I've used it...

You're welcome. I'm not going to put valve extenders on either, for the same reason, even though I know the impact probably isn't even measurable.

 

Not measurable by us, but I'm sure it is. Sometimes, it's the little things that add up.

I'm a bicycle enthusiast...and that crowd has been known to completely OCD over a few grams of weight and the tiniest aerodynamic advantage.

Accu-Gauge model EZ02. This is a gem. It has a hook up for the air compressor and you can monitor the pressure as you pump up the tires

 

A bit OT... but my bicycle unit arrived. The face of the gauge was not flat in the housing (just looks bad, works fine) and the rubber surround is like a size too big. I asked the company, and they say they're all like that so it is easier for them to put on. ?? It is so loose as to make it hard to hold the thing. Well, at least it seems nicely accurate and easy to use. I'll just keep it and avoid the returns hassle.

But I will NOT carry it with me on the bike, as it weighs several grams.

 

My Accu-Gage H Series Gauge came in and I really like it! Thank you everyone for answering my questions and helping me pick out the right one.

I wonder if anyone has used the Accu-Gage DF ...X model (the chuck on the far right). This looks to be the type we used when I was a mechanic at the school bus yard and it was very handy and easy to apply to the stem... of course this was pre-Prius.

 

I got the Accu-gage S60X tire guage locally at Sears for 6.99 + tax. Too bad they didn't have the H series.
