This is very encouraging. I wonder if this is true on flat runs or it it stays better even with hills? Would you classify this run as flat or rolling hills, etc?

Your tripometer is the most accurate. The EV range on the dash is just an estimate on your current driving path and efficiency. If you have an Advanced model, the ECO dashboard can tell you your total trip distance for the month and adds each trip to it, but you would have to record the mileage from the app before the trip and stop at the end of the EV range to get the difference in mileage. Just as much work, but a different way of doing it.

The Prime offers the ability to easily exceed the 25 mile EV range posted by Toyota. On level roads with moderate traffic, even with A/C running, following traffic, I regularly get in excess of 30 miles EV. I stay on default EV with Power mode, I don't gun it at intersections, and don't rush up to red lights, to achieve those numbers. Driving up grades, like 57 Fwy north from Anaheim toward Pomona, a 1000 ft climb in about 22 miles, I use a ton of electricity to maintain a 60mph speed. You make it back up on the return trip. Speeds over 85 mph also eat up more electricity, but since I've only done this in bursts, it doesn't affect EV as much. I'm currently averaging 32 miles of range, having played a bit recently with my fun Prime.
Side comment: I wonder how you Prime owners who live in the "Hate Prius" zones (unlike us in Socal, where Prii are the most common cars), feel that Prii haters will react to this new, "sporty" car.
Many people who've seen my car didn't realize it was a Prius.

My 18 miles of commute is through up and down of small hills. No stretch of flat runs longer than 2-3 miles, and total maybe less than 5 miles are flat. My problem with manual pedaling is that when I hit uphill, I tend to become heavy footed, so I accelerate unnecessarily too quick. With a cruise on, the car just stays at speed limit all the way. In addition, with manual pedaling, since I am agitating whole lot of huge pick-up truck drivers behind me driving at speed limit on a rural one lane road, when they tailgate me, I instinctively press gas. With cruise on I can ignore the urge to press the gas pedal. ;)

Mine is Premium, so phone app is not available, I think. It would be nice to be able to record tripmeter mile before and after the stop, but I can't, so I am actually writing down while driving.

I use CC all the time too for the reasons you mention, plus I find it hard to maintain exact speed even on flats doing it manually, always seems to be going up/down a mile or 2 ... have been doing this in my Gen3, one habit that carried over :D

My previous Gen3 did not have DRCC, so it was not practical to use CC when I had to hit brake to cancel the setting numerous times. With DRCC, I set my speed at speed limit, and take my foot off the gas pedal completely. If there is slow going car front of me, car will decelerate automatically and when the car front of me pick up the speed, my car just follows up to the speed limit i set. I love this DRCC thing! Thanks! This is how I do my current Prius as well and for the same reasons. I have a very similar rolling hill 55 mile drive (one way) several times a week so it's good to see the Prime's CC is working well. Some of my past Toyota's CC's waited too long into the hill before kicking in and then over compensated and over speed going up which really messed with gas mileage in rolling hills. I always wonder with each new Toyota if the CC is going to be a good or twitchy one.

Here is my commute route elevation profile. Total distance is 18.71 miles one way. I need 6.42 miles more of EV range to cover the round trip on a single charge. capture-20170825-110610.png

DRCC in EV works particularly well.

I'm up to 40 miles per charge! Glad I hit it before cold weather sets in.

The highest I ever got was 36. Every time I drive to San Francisco, it drops back down to 30. LoL

I'm retired / no daily commute / "irregular" daily driving habits, so... even though I've had ours less than two weeks, I've already gotten into the habit of charging it whenever I note that there's less than, say, 5 - 8 miles EV range remaining. BUT...

...the two times that I have driven in EV until the HV kicked in on its own, it was about 27 and about 32 miles on each charge.

34.9 after a full charge. Still going up. Winter is coming. It will go back down.

Five weeks out, I've reached the holy grail of 35 miles.
But they're (what I call) "loosey goosey" miles. At least the first few miles "off the top," and the last few miles "off the bottom" of the battery.
Meaning, miles 35...34...33 get used up, consumed, really fast. I mean, I consume .1 mile before I've gone 100 yards!
Then, when I'm down to the final mile or so, I notice the meter read-out may hold for an unusually long time on, say, .3 mile or .9 mile. Then suddenly, bang, the remaining few tenths disappear in the blink of an eye and the gas engine kicks in.
Weird. I don't know how to describe it from a scientific point of view.

^ It is much like knowing you have 15 minutes before you need to leave to go to work. Minutes 1 - 5 go by like normal, minutes 6-10 go twice as fast, and the remaining 5 minutes go by in just one minute. And then you're late.

Well it looks like the changing system and battery have topped out at 41.0 which has been the result the last several charges in a row. It is now mid September and the temperature are just a little bit cooler over night. will be interesting to see where the charges go over the winter. Very happy with the car.

Three weeks into ownership now, but and/or so I'm STILL in "learning mode" in MANY regards as to what this car can do / as to how to gather info from the car's seemingly infinite methods for presenting same (I'm really a dummy "at heart"!)....

Anywhooo... except for purely personal / "informational" reasons, I pay little attention to how far the CAR "thinks" I'll be able to drive in EV mode when it's been fully charged. Instead, I do my best to pay "factual" attention to how far I have ACTUALLY driven (in EV mode) at the point where the car automatically switches to HV mode. So far, I'm averaging a bit more than 31 miles after having driven purely in EV mode from full-to-depleted battery five times (mostly in-town / mostly moderate stop and go traffic)... but I know that a) just yesterday, the car switched from EV to HV after 32.7 miles, and b) that my car's "record" is 36.1 miles.

Also... I do NOT drive in such a manner that "holds up" traffic at all. But... if nobody's behind me, I do my VERY best to accelerate slowly-to-moderately, and I do my VERY best to "glide" as much as I can whenever noting traffic WELL ahead of me has slowed, and whenever a traffic light WELL ahead of me (say 100 to 200 yards or so) has just turned yellow....

Six weeks into my ownership of the base model....I've reached the elite 36-mile charge status!!!!
