any market for a subwoofer enclosure?

    Yes, use wood were possible and connect the sections with fiberglass. No PVC needed, we are not building a ported box. That would require more air space. :)

    This is starting to sound more like a woodwork project and less like a fibreglass project. ;)

    In fact, if I can get flat panels of 1" MDF in there, I may not need fibreglass at all. It's not needed for making the joints airtight, and the box doesn't need to be waterproof. Hmmm. Time to play with some cardboard.

    I'd be interested for my '10 if it fits. I'm not into replacing everything else too just to power the sub. Is there an uncomplicated way to "tap" existing amp to run one?

    LOL you are cracking me up my friend. :)

    3/4" MDF is more than enough for our baby subs. I'm sure you'll use fiberglass as well as wood. it would be much easier to fill in the large gaps between the wood AND you can eek out more air space that way. :)

    You can easily "tap" into the existing system to feed a signal to the new subwoofer amplifier. :)

    Well, we could use 2" steel plate. I think jayman has some extra lying around, and apparently he loves to play with a cutting torch.

    But then, I won't be mailing any of these things anywhere, and it would only cut down on the interior volume of the enclosure, which I gather is on the low end of the scale as it is. And MDF's not the densest of woods - maybe I can scrounge up some Lignum Vitae or Ebony.

    Heck, I could even try casting some out of concrete, but then we'd have to put one on each side to balance the car. Unless of course I installed an airbag suspension, which has other advantages, but that's maybe getting a little carried away. :rolleyes:

    I'd go with forged Titanium, chemically machined to fit. Shouldn't cost more than $100K or so. As for concrete vs steel, during WW II they made boats from concrete that were lighter and stronger than steel. I always wondered how they kept them from leaking, considering every basement I've seen LOL.

    interesting read. i'm having a fiberglass sub enclosure made for the passenger side cubby in the hatch. hopefully i'll be able to post some pics this weekend in a new thread.
