What is Aluminum? The filter housing is composite material (non metallic).

woops, guess I was thinking of the oil filter cap wrench and not the housing.

A lot of those offers do not cover synthetic oil, but even if it was $300, that's a steal. However, you can count on a hard upsell during every visit.

That's a nice cap filter tool. Interesting how the dimension is 64.5mm

If yours was also purchased from Snap-On, they should replace it for you under the lifetime warranty.

Nope, not from Snap-On. The company that makes them sells them to whoever wants them and puts their stamp on them. When my friend broke mine, he gave it back to me along with the Assenmacher tool, because he felt bad about it.

wow 55$? that's one expensive oil filter wrench, and any life time warranty on that?

I bought mine from Snap-on and hasn't broken on me yet, but I don't know how anyone can break this filter wrench.

Mine's exactly the same as the one in your pics, except it has JTC auto tools 4904 stamped on top. Here's another one with BGS tools stamped on it.

So how are you guys getting the car in the air to access the engine from the back? Jackstands on the side jacking points? Lifting from the front centre jacking point with jackstands on the sides? Could I do it with ramps from the front? Looks like I would get about the same clearance as the video showed. It's tight under there for a big guy like me!

Just ordered the Assenmacher tool after reading this thread. I'm 130 km from change time, and was going to do it today with the tools I have, but decided to research on here first. sigh. So when it arrives in a week to a week and a half I'll be changing the oil for the first time. It's been 14 months since I took the car home from the dealership. I guess it's a bit long time wise but I haven't been driving it that much. My FJ Cruiser plows through the snow in winter, keeping the miles off the Prius. Now at 78xx km.

If you use the ramps, it'll give you more room than jack stands depending on your jack as well, but using the ramp is much easier since all you do is drive up onto it.

As for jacking up the vehicle, the front has a jacking point underneath where you jack it up and then you want to put your jackstands on each of the pinch weld on the side.

I use ramps and while under there, I also remove the entire bottom cover so I can look around.

The cap has an O ring seal, finger tight is fine. Making it tighter wont prevent leaks. The seal seals around the housing, it doesn't even have to be screwed right home to seal, the housing and seal just have to engage. Finger tight should be written on the housing. The tool is only used to remove the cap because over time the O ring will stick a little. No tools to tighten, that is why the cover has finger grips.
