The documents that are the backbone of the USA are still in charge, stored at the National Archives. The best days are now, no authoritarian figure can spoil the documents without meeting the requirements to do so in those documents. The head of state is not in charge by design. No more kings was the founding principle.

What do the documents do in their own defense, if none of the people the documents made responsible live up to that responsibility?

 

They would go away to recycling, no defense. The documents require a pretty good number of official people to change them. Already Congress had to change some documents to require more objections to the mundane counting of the certified votes. All due to one man’s temper tantrum about losing. It takes 2/3 of the elected reps to change the documents. So far it is working.
