Read my original post "dude" (always been wary of strangers calling one another "dude"). I emphatically stated he will not indeed be treated more harshly simply because he is in the national news. In fact, you can be rest assured he will be treated with "kid gloves". That's just politics and it would be the same in any other country. We're not different. You are very naive if you believe he will be treated as an average citizen would be.

Not quite sure how you connected Al's arrest and felony charges with presidential pardons, but many will surely argree this is a non partisian issue. You may have still been in grade school when our last Democratic president pardoned 140 convicted felons, many drug runners, armed robbers, bombers of civilians and law enforcement personnel, seditionists, etc. Poor fellows, probably all minor offenses.

yes, speeding and possession of less than Schedule II narcotics are minor offenses. Actually, they are offenses for which anyone is eligible for a deferred prosecution, i.e. payment of court costs and performance of 24 hours community service and the district attorney will dismiss the charges. Hence, they are considered "minor" charges, usually misdomeanors. If I leave a prescription for Vicatin in your car, do you think you should go to jail for that? No one was killed, no wreck, and I'm not aware of any allegation that he was even consuming any of the drugs. If so, which ones? The California Deferred Entry of Judgment program is a bit different. There is no community service requirement, but eligible participants must complete 20 hours of drug education classes and stay arrest free for eighteen months before the charges are dismissed

In California, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is a misdemeanor which is not punishable by jail time but only by a $100 fine.

Al III was most likely booked for possession of prescription drugs without a prescription because he was probably carrying them in a different container than that provided by the pharmacy. I do that quite often when I only need a few pills to take during the say when I am away from home. Those charges are routinely dropped when the prosecutor is presented with a valid prescription for the particular medications.

I agree with you. Those are very minor offenses.

Actually I am surprised about that people are so freaked out about a prius going 100mph. Is that not in the datasheet? Reaching more than 100mph in a prius is not that special in germany, where there are pieces of highways where speed is unlimited.
170km/h is not even that much, I reached that with a 1.3L toyota starlet with around 90 PS.

and about drafting:
I guess it was a joke but just to make sure: A prius has a low Cw value, which makes it hard to feel a draft at all...

Had the Sheriff deputies suspected that he was under the influence of drugs at the time that he was arrested for speeding, he would have been booked for driving under the influence. The fact that he was only booked for possession of controlled substances and speeding but not for DUI, is pretty strong proof that he was not intoxicated at the time that he was driving at 100 MPH.
