You need an ADS-USB cable - they're about $45. See if you can slip the installer at Best Buy a $10 and have him program it for you. Best Buy stocks the FL-CAN so their install bay should have the programming cable.

So with just needing three wires... and the module, I wonder if you could some how use a cell phone like this guy did to activate the remote starter.

Remote Start using Cell Phone: Part 3 | Dave Hacks

Anyone able/willing to figure it out? Would be a way to get SmartStart like capabilities (remote start only and no keyless entry) without needing to have "data" on your personal cell.

Update: decided to list my extended-range remote (7752v) for sale on eBay. I have decided to go with Viper Smartstart. The remote had promised 1 mi of range, but it's good for 300-400 ft at best. If you are two blocks away from your car, there is no reception. I think Viper Smartstart is truly the better setup.

Did anyone go with the iDataLink instead of DEI DB-ALL? What's the difference in functionality and installation?

I'm not a huge fan of DEI, however, that's based on opinions from 10+ years ago.

Anyone setup remote window control? Or Arm/lock the doors and the windows automatically roll up?

I haven't completed the remote starter install on my '13 yet. I'm just waiting to purchase the SmartStart unit.

I actually have both the iDataLink and DB-ALL units at home. For my install I'm going to use the DB-ALL. I'm not confident in figuring out my way through wiring so I'm just going to go with what's been documented by others :)

Has anyone connected the two wires for EIPS?
    - Anyone have any tips for finding the horn connector or wire?

For those who installed SmartStart, is it necessary to wire the 12v and ground wiring, or does this unit feed off power from the DBALL?

I did not connect EIPS. Smart Start will get power if you use D2D. If you go W2W you have to add power.

EIPS is useless. It does not work on the Prius. The software will try to shut down the vehicle, but because the ICE is off at idle, it detects 0 RPM and does not know what to do.

The DBALL will provide the power, just connect the Smartstart to a good ground. There's a good ground that is near the e-brake area.

Where did people mount their smart start units? I planned on sticking it directly on the underside of the dash right next to the drivers side vent. I'd like to mount it lower or at a location where I can actually tie it down to something location. This is going to be insecure.

I have mine ziptied to a metal bracket of some kind. My unit is around the e-brake area. I can take a picture of it for you this week.

Critic. No need for you to take pics for me. I found the ground. I also found a good mounting spot for both units. Thanks for offering!

Is there any difference between the DSM series and the VSM series? I'm assuming the VSM is just newer?

There is no difference. One is branded Directed and the other is branded Viper.

    Great write up!
Got all my parts ready to go just looking for a warm place to install.
I flashed my unit and just noticed there is. 3.11 beta posted...is it of any use for just remote start?
Want the latest but don't want troubles if there are no benefits for remote start.
    Thanks for the help!

    Update:
Just installed with the beta 3.11 and all is well.
    Works Great!!
