Your long rant doesn't tell me anything. You aren't any better than anybody else. You just talk a lot. You get over it.

I think what he is trying to say, in summary, is that your "America is evil" mantra is bullshit.

    I concur.
I talk too much and I'm sure as hell not better than anybody else is.
In fact....I may not be in the upper 50-percentile for what you call "good."
I "got over" the America is Evil thing when Liberalism started down a path that I was unwilling to follow it on.
I also discovered through the years that America is a pretty groovy place.

    YMMV!

    Merry Christmas! :)

Your story is true. BUT that does not make it right. What about the male teacher that had sex with one of his female students (rape) then she killed herself. The judge said she looked older and gave the guy 30 days in jail. For that crime, the minimum is 2 years. The judge should be fired. They hold us accountable every day, how come we can not hold them accaountable for their actions.

    A different point of view:

In a long discussion with a Lawyer, I got one of the most insightful comments about our "justice" system. His study of history convinced him that our legal system was never designed to perform the impossible...providing even handed justice. The lesson of history is that our Justice System evolved to end cycles of revenge, a completely different function than providing ''justice" for the victims. The focus of our system was only allowing the impersonal government to execute legal processes instead of a mob, king, governor, president, mayor, corporation, etc. By forcing an offender through a long cycle of collecting evidence, filing charges, conducting a trial, and determining sentences, he and the mob were isolated and temporarily protected from each other. It was only a side effect that sometimes justice was occasionally achieved. By performing all those functions (often poorly) society was improved by basically making it virtually impossible for any group to provide (even more unfair) "justice".

We recently had a convicted murderer try for an appeal on the basis that he was so intoxicated he didn't know he was intoxicated and therefore wasn't responsible for his actions behind the wheel that killed someone!
    His appeal was denied....

Slow realizing which case this was - did not know how viral it would go, but it deserves this kind of outrage.

When he was arrested the 1st time drunk with a scantily dressed 14-yr old, then let go, he thanked the police for "completely wasting my time." Arrogance plus he went on to kill four family members.

Repeat DUI offenders that eventually kill is common - repeat is common. I've seen and posted several stories of guys that get released one or more times then kill someone on the road.

Automakers have made cars a lot safer since Ralph Nader pointed out the hazards in Unsafe at Any Speed. Now we need to have the courage to take on the liquor lobby to make it tougher for drunks to drive. I know - the penalties are tough, but our justice system puts drunks back on the roads before they dry up.
