i think that judge might have made things worse, instead of better. this kid needs help, and not from his parents.

Mom needs an anklet and a felony conviction.

Since....like oil changes, butt whippings don't work retroactively the brat kid needs what he's probably going to wind up receiving.....about a decade of growth and some responsibility perhaps accentuated by a little relative poverty.
He might come most of the way around when he looks into the eyes of his first kid for the first time.....or he might just be a total jerk for the rest of his life....or somewhere in between.
Time will tell. Civil litigation might chip away at his financial resources a little over the next few years or he might be rich for the rest of his life.

He's not going to jail (yet) for more than a few months, and even then it won't be for long enough for him to be much more than inconvenienced......and everybody is flopping and twitching about our overcrowded prisons anyway.

A few weeks from now, he'll be off the radar screens until he screws up again.

If I remember correctly, the Tarrant County Sheriff even said (on the news) that based on the laws and his conviction he will get off relatively easy when he is returned....Parole violations and any associated they can tack on. I believe selective room mates might enhance his learning experience though. Whether he learns his lesson or not is up to him, but the fact remains he got off easy killing 4 people.

    I disagree with this Bra...

She needs to be put in a box, not her comfy bed at home with correctional jewelry... she thinks she is above the law because she has so many coins.

It isn't the first time . . . In 1967, some 'rich kids' in Oklahoma City picked up a young high school girl (sophmore) and gang raped her. They got nothing.

Now I've gotten all angry again!! This is not an old man 'get off my lawn' but it pissed me off then too!

Yeah.....I get that, but we're setting other non-violent creeps free due to the injustices of incarcerating them in our overcrowded prisons.....bla....bla....bla.

You're not going to fix this girl, and biology suggests that she's not going to screw up raising any more kids. Spending money to house her for a half year in some medium security lock-up is only going to throwing money at a problem with no hope of knocking a dent in it.

I'd rather see her in an orange highway safety vest imitating an ALCPA person (aluminum can pickers of America) for six months....or scraping dog turds off of some SPCA county shelter's floors.

You get most of the punishment.....at a fraction of the cost, and you can pay homage to the leftists out there who consider selling illicit drugs to school aged children to be a "non-violent" crime.

If I didn't have company... I'd respond with why I think these folks need to go to the box later Bra.

Have we forgotten that these two killed 4 people. The one that got drunk and the one that gave him an excuse. If they used a gun wouldn't that be mass murder?

Not only did he kill those 4 people, he left another with a severe brain injury who can no longer move or speak. It would really be nice to see justice finally served in this case but I don't have high hopes.

guns are seen as intentional. cars and alcohol are seen as 'accidents'. legislators can relate to the latter.

I'll let AB speak to the legalities, but I'm thinking that the brat's already had his day in court. He was tried as a juvie, IIRC and different rules apply there. There's also a little something called double jeopardy.
Also, murder seems to be a little different than manslaughter.

I'm not advocating for these creeps btw.
If you want to give mom and the kid the maximum penalties allowed by the law, I wouldn't give a crap at all.
I'm just reminding the court that the prevailing winds of our legal system lean away from incarceration for these types of offenses, and while it's true that there are aggravating circumstances involved (courts hate it when people give them the finger!) there are more creative ways to punish Mom and brat than throwing money at the problem.
America loves easy, quick solutions for problems that usually don't solve the problem.

As with the pharmaceutical industry, sometimes this results in some unfortunate side-effects. ;)

The felony beef will be the real punishment when her cash is somewhat depleted.....since it's kinda hard to get meaningful employment with a check in the "Have you ever....." block.

    YMMV
