Me either. Has anyone else noticed that there are starting be a lot more grammar and punctuation issues from new members? I will be the first one to say that my grammar isn't the best but damn, some of these posts don't make any sense.

As with most products, the incentive for companies to improve their product offering and value will come from the need to remain competitive with other products. To some degree the Volt is already applying this pressure, but in many ways they serve different customer needs. When the Ford Cmax Energi arrives this could increase the pressure on Toyota to stay ahead of the pack, but generally there is a lack of serious competition in this space to drive real value for customers.

i get it now, i thought the question was ' would the future pip have an upgraded battery?' and my response is yes. not 'will toyota offer a battery upgrade to present pips, which i do not think. sorry for the confusion.

Sorry, Your view only made me think that 2013 or 2014 models come with better batteries and not the one already sold, or in the market. I do think battery upgrade by 'Toyota' will need more work than just upgrade battery to keep car weight balanced, so costs more.
Otherwise, I love to get my PiP battery upgraded through outlets which are already there, but not at cost of 3k, but lesser. This is because PiP already has charging port and charger build in.

Yeah, I don't see Toyota ever selling an add-on pack to extend the range of a 2012 PiP or convert a standard Prius to a PiP. As you say, they'd rather just sell you a new vehicle.

based on toyota's history, i would expect a new improved pip around 2018 unless some competitor creates a product that makes the pip virtually irrelevent before then. otherwise, we'll probably only see small improvements year to year. a strong competitor could also produce price decreases like we're seeing now.
