I think it's really neat that they fit there ... but if I were ever going to have that done to our '08, I think I'd start running my tires at 41f/41r rather than the 41/39 I've been running them at the last 2+ years; to "compensate" for the "permanent" addition of 100+ pounds so far back in the car.

Yes. The first system is being installed in PA the week of Sept 23. After that we will post instructions on our diy website.

    Here's what Enginer says:

I have a 2012 Plug In Prius. I would like to add a supplemental 4kw battery pack to my existing battery. Can you give me details on parts needed, and cost?
    Sun, Sep 9 2012 9:13am - Jack Chen
The same kit can be installed onto PiP. The cost for 4KWH kit is $3495.

We can provide free installation ($500 value) at our Troy, Michigan facility. You also save shipping fee of ($200) if you install here.

Does the $3495.00 include the charger? Because my car already has a charger, so I don't need to be charged for the charger. I took a dry run out to your address yesterday, so you do the installation out of your house? What financing options are available? I have an Amazon account and noticed I can get 12 months no interest if I purchase your product through them. I would prefer a longer free interest payment plan.

Yes, it includes a charger. Since our pack is low voltage 48V, it can't use the OEM traction battery charger. But we can tap into the same J1772 charging port so that you don't need extra plug.

We have a shop at 330 E Maple, Suite M, Troy, MI 48083 where we do the installation and service.

Attached is a GE Capital financing application. If you are qualified, they provide 12 month interest free financing if it is paid in full within 12 months.

What's the additional amperage going to do to my 120 volt outlet? My apartment only has 120 volt 15 amps

    Mon, Sep 10 2012 10:10am - Jack Chen
It would be additional 10A for our charger. You could charge one pack at a time by turning Enginer kit off until the OEM pack is fully charged.

The first install is on my car and will in fact be starting right after Sep. 23, 2012.
The final cost was a little less than $5000.00 including shipping. I will be doing the entire install myself, as I was formerly a mechanic. Rob has told me that he will do whatever is required to make the install go well. After I get it in, I will post info about how well it is working. I have already been keeping track of every tank of gas, including % of plug in, and miles per gallon per tank. I received my car end of April and already have 11,000 miles logged. This did however include 2 long road trips, 1 was 2100 miles and the other 1500 miles. I know the cost is higher than enginer, but I think the quality is better, by my research. I don't mind paying a little more, because it is going into a $32,000.00 car.

I agree it's better than Enginer. I don't feel that adding their charger to my existing port and having an added 10 amps on the PIP charger, Besides I don't think the PIP brick would work with Enginer's battery charger. I would have to use the brick b/c my outlet at my apt is 120volts

I don't know what you mean by a data logger.
I created an excel spread sheet to log and calculate the data.

The graph on the top left is the current that the charger draws, the top middle is voltage from my outlet (notice the drop in voltage, several parking lights on same circuit, the top right one is my calculated wattage. the bottom ones are the drops in current when the charger checks battery levels as pictured in the top graphs as eight spikes. PIP charger status 9-6-2012. WITH DROPS IN CURRENT AND WATTAGE.JPG

6k or 5 plus lots of labor seems a LOT of money for 4 kwh extra given what is on the market now from auto manufacturers.
