Actual MPGs - Anyone Filled Up, Calculated?

    Yeah it does make a big diff obviously how far you drive on trips and how you can charge. My wife has a 70 mile roundtrip commute with no ability to charge. So her mileage tends to be closer to 50. On our weekend errands and when i drive to work it's 100% EV. And yes this is our first Prius so developing driving habits and learning at the same time. But 36 bucks to fill up was a lot cheaper than the Audi... :)

    We won't see the true result until next month. If you need to put gas now, you're driving it as a regular Prius. Many converted Prius go 1-2 months without fill up. Sometimes more. I would imagine PiP is the same. Let's see who can go 1000 miles between fill up.

    I'm curious to see what the effective usable tank capacity is on the PHV.

    On the GenII Prius it was about 9-10 gallons between fill-ups.

    Is the PHV still using the flexible bladder?

    no, there hasn't been a bladder since 2010 gen III.

    Can you guys that reported 64+/- MPG tell us about your daily commute? The numbers are a little disappointing -- a GII with an Enginer kit will do better than that for commutes up to 30 miles. There is perhaps a learning curve here, being adept to use HV/EV to make sure that the ICE provides the majority of power for hill climbs and acceleration, let the battery blend in a lot of power for cruising, and use EV for only low speeds. Anything more than 100 amps in EV mode, I'd say you'd be better off in HV mode, due to efficiency losses on the electric side.

    Consider hundreds of 10/11 Prius owners reporting actual MPGs on fuelly.com .... averaged out, has not reached 48 MPG. Short trips, 1 mile hops to the corner store bring hybrd FE to its knees, 43 MPGs or less ...

    PiP will run all EV on short trips. But, will 6x MPGs be widely reported among PiP owners?

    I think 48 to 64 MPG is 25% improvement.

    (((1/48) - (1/64)) / (1/48)) x 100 = 25%

    True the short trips have poor MPG, but then they are short and in the overall MPG computation have a small impact. If small trips are say 5% of total miles travel, the 50mpg Prius would get .05*43 + .95*50 = 47.5mpg

    585 mi / 8.311 = 70.38 MPG actual ??

    Does this indicate a little gage error given CONS 72 MPG?
    No biggie, it's only one data point.

    Really depends on your commute. So far I am getting 78mpg. I have a 84 mile roundtrip commute to work, and I am only able to charge at home. I have approx. 12% EV usage only. Still on first tank of gas. Can't confirm how accurate the computer is yet though the 2 other posts suggest it is spot on.

    Actually, it did stop automatically at 8.1 gallons and I forced a little more in. 8.1 would be 72. So it is right on. That's pretty cool. I guess without the bladder it can get more accurate.

    8.311 is what she put in.. not necessarily what he burned. Maybe the fill at the dealer was a little light.

    I'm still waiting for someone with 1000 mile tank or even 1500 mile tank with 100+ actual MPG. I refuse to believe that a cheap nice person Enginer kit gets higher mileage than the OEM plugin.
