Worst mosquitos I've ever experience where at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin. They were seriously out for blood.

In southern climates, the mosquitos are matched by the insects, birds, and bat who eat them.

Several years back I had the same experience of hitting a deer. I had to pay $3000 for repair, as I only had liability insurance.

What I have learned after the accident is that 90% to 95% of all deer accidents only happen within 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after of Sunrise and Sunset. If you are extra careful of surrounding then you can easily avoid it. In particular during the time when grass is turning grey and the median has some grass.

Most of them do occur at dusk or dawn, but not all. We had a near miss with three of them a few years ago as they went flying across I-80 in Indiana.

If they were flying they must have had names like Rudolf.

LOL!!! Actually, the fuller story is that they were single file. There was almost no traffic and the deer were running across a harvested cornfield. My wife was driving while I rode shotgun. She saw the trajectory and started braking hard. The front-runner was no problem. The second one crossed in front of of us about 10 feet away as we stopped. The third one slid to a stop with her nose against my window.

If it's in the fall and you see does run across, slow down because a buck is usually not far behind.

i encounter deer, coons, possums, ground hogs...big bugs...the other night we had 9 deer crossing the road that i drive on, going to work at 2300hrs,...i was able to get stopped in time...(just waiting on santas sleigh next...)...weve had 3 prii over the years...coons, usually gets the front bumper...first prii $3000 coon, 2nd prii $3500 coons...prime...a baby coon at $500... sort of tired of this routine... we were talking the other night about all this ...whereas years ago, this wasnt a problem...but with the intrusion of housing into the farmlands and into the country, the habitat is getting squeezed and the road is where they are...ps...Had a deer try to jump over my 4x4 truck...buck hit me, not the other way around...$7000... Going to hang in Nevada more instead of Indiana ...Just crazy humans there...

With deer, your car may be damaged, but most of times you can walk away fine. A crush with a moose, you lose.

I can understand current collision and pedestrian avoidance systems not being able to see a running animal in time to react. But as technology advances I can foresee that such systems will eventually be able to avoid most of these type of accidents. Of course if the animal comes running out from behind something there may not physically be time to stop but at least the car will have begun slowing when it hits it.

Although I remember someone saying that the current systems are programmed to recognize cars and people but not animals. Maybe that is something that can be tweaked even with the current systems.

Mythbusters simulated that. Almost every time, the moose went through the windshield with devastating results to the occupants.

Didn't know anyone thought that was MYTH. What did they use for a moose substitute?

The myth was that, if you go fast enough when you hit the moose, it'll go over the top of your car. I found the video here.
