Nothing wrong with what you want. Some folks like being the passenger, some folks like to be in control...that's all

So..... you're agreeing with the overall point? That a tightly controlled, regulated system with levels of automation and dependence on advanced technology works?

I think it's going to take a multi-faceted approach. For starters: where are all these cars going? Can we take a look at this nine-to-five, 5 days a week drive to the office ethic? And wrest the steering wheel death-grip from a few more folks, get onto transit? The future is not gonna be like the Jetsons, at least I hope not.

City planners are culpible: all these out-in-the-boonies big-box store ghettos.

A lot of grocery stores in our area are now offering web shopping: you tell them what you want, some workers tool around the store with a buggy (and a device with your shopping list). It's apparently catching on. They'll shop like you would, cherry-picking produce.

Not for us, any time soon. And our groceries are just a toodle down the road. I do find I'm ordering more and more stuff via Amazon though, saves a lot of running around.

I sometimes kill two birds with one stone by parking my cart in the corner of the store and walk by/forth for each item. Get in a lot more steps in that way without dealing with weather. I basically adapted the mall-walker idea to grocery shopping.
