Have you figured out a way to change the cabin filter? The place where the filter used to be is secured by several screws. I don't want to mess up with anything before I really know where I am going. Is the filter still inside the glove box?
I don't know on the Prime. Can a Prime owner chime in on the cabin filter? I've had to change mine once due to mice. I've checked a couple times since and no mice, no mold, no nothing except leaves and seeds. (Maple and evergreen trees...)
Err, that's what the A/C is for - dehumidify the air. You don't run it without A/C otherwise, yes it will fog up esp. if you track in snow into the car. That being said, typically if it's cold enough, there isn't much moisture in the air. Most of the moisture is from your breath or melted snow on the floor mats.
There is a big difference between sugar coating something and being nice and respectful. But I totally agree with you on the "winner" thing. I don't think all the participation trophies are doing anyone any good. And...I wish I was under 35.
You can't run the AC and the heat in the Prime at the same time without starting the gas engine, because the heat pump can't run both ways at the same time.
I think this is the correct analysis of this situation. I bet there is a nicer way to say that too. One can be respectful without taking extra effort to be "nice". How about we NOT beat each other up over personalities......OK ??
Yes it absolutely IS......when what they said was not in any way dis-respectful in the first place. You are expressing an negative opinion about my personality. And I think that is highly dis-respectful. Just give it a rest please.
In the Deep South, cold is not an issue. Nor is tracking in moisture, it's already there. In the morning, I can fire up the car with the AC cranked full blast, and it won't stop the inside of the windshield from fogging up. Putting it in defrost at least makes a dent in it, but you can't just fire up the car and go, you have to either wait, or drive with your head out the window for the first mile. Which is nearly like swimming. And some of the LOVELY smells around here (paper plant, farms) means leaving it on recirc more than I like. I usually forget to switch to recirc before nearing the paper plant, and regret it most of the time.
East coast moisture is definitely up there compared to the west coast. We seem to dry out a touch (drop to maybe 60-70% RH during the day) but will stay near 90% all winter. Out east, I recall the moisture staying high all day/night.
From the diagrams i have seen here, the Prime can do exactly that. There is a third refrigerant coil, located in the the cabin, which always functions as a condenser (hot). When the system needs to dehumidify but not cool, the system is put in "cool" mode (evaporator in the cabin, condenser outside) and air is directed through that (hot) additional coil as well as the (cold) evaporator coil; otherwise, it just sits there and gets hot. It's not clear to me if it is used in heat mode; I suppose it could be.
See How does the heat pump work in a Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid? | PriusChat . I don't know why front defrost kicks in the ICE, unless maybe the third coil cannot completely offset the cooling in the evaporator, and it needs help from hot coolant.
I was afraid this would end up being the case. I did end up searching and found different [non-applicable] information with previous generations/non-Prime gen4. I wouldn't be as annoyed in this case if there was a simple physical button for recirc. like most cars. Having to get into the 'climate' menu on the touch screen to turn off recirc every time I get back in the car is pretty annoying.
I'm glad our 2010 Canadian touring has no touch screen. If it's any consolation, I think when set to Auto the system might start in recirc but soon enough switch to fresh.
Yup. On the Gen 2 and 3, we have climate control buttons on the steering wheel. We were a touch annoyed when they removed it completely for Gen 4/Prime. That being said, you can access some of it via voice (like saying warmer or colder. I think saying a temperature value might work as well. I don't know about recirc) and you can also access it via the 4.2" MID on the instrument panel with the left control pad on the steering wheel. (It is more clicking than using the 11.6" MFD)
But there still is a button on the dash? That's not bad. I use the steering wheel button very occasionally, but then I always need to glance down, locate the recirc/fresh air button on the dash, study it's two smallish icons, determine which is which, and which is lit. This process takes 5 seconds or so, especially when you're glancing up/down, trying to maintain some semblance of vigilance towards the road ahead.
Isn't it the same button on the Gen 3? You don't have to press a certain side. There's no button on the dash in the Prime with the 11.6" screen. There is on the 7" screen.
I'm curious how you guys have your car defaulting back to recirculate mode. I tweaked some things on the car when I got it but don't remember changing any climate control options. I changed my car to fresh air mode when I got the car and it's stayed that way since. I adjusted it with the steering wheel options. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
