Yup, I made sure what I bought only had the 15's. I intentionally bought this vs. the fully loaded Blizzard Pearl that was for sale the same time I was looking for a Prius.

You have the additional disadvantage of the 17.

I have the additional disadvantage of the moon roof, which adds to the weight and is less aerodynamic to it changing the contour of the roof.

lol...I wouldn't mind trying this out myself. Uber will become legal in our city by October and I'm thinking to go out and drive around myself. I know there's a lot of drunk or drugged riders out there... this could be useful.

 

It's damn near impossible with a foot-operated emergency brake. I tried.

 

What could be simplier?...just pull off center at the steering wheel for leverage while stomping on both pedals as hard as you can

...just kidding, never tried this at all.

 

Hm, something interesting happend today as I go to my regular very small trip to see parents. It is my most trip, 13km length than stop for 1-2 hours than 13km driving back. These small trips are usualy very bad for MPG and I never achieve better mpg than 55 / 4.2 l/100km - but today/75mpg !/. See the picture, please. What I did, I was just read yesterday night this chat, some youtube videos and learn more about prius car.
I am still on 17" E rated tires for fuel economy. I would never think, I can achieve this with such a small trip and with cold start!
Prius drivers, we can really fight this cold start penalty and low MPG back to our side!

This car is quite interesting regarding MPG and I am happy to see, that there is still room for improve it. And... I was not blocking any car behind me. If I see anybody in rear mirror, I accelerate more quickly and or give signal to the car, he can pass me immediately.

Would this consumption start at 2.x l/100km if I am on 15" some energy saver+ ?? You will call me crazy, but I am going to switch from 17 nice wheels with electrons to some s.it looking, but better mpg giving 15 " Am I the only one, who will do this? cheers

 

Doesn't the Gen 3 emergency only brake the left rear wheel? That would seem to me to make it more difficult to spin clockwise compared to counterclockwise? Also I think the traction control might engage when it senses the rear wheel lockup and probably decrease throttle, which would make completing the maneuver difficult. I haven't tried a bootlegger turn in a Prius either.

Shouldn't the daughter also be practicing 4-wheel drifting around a corner?In the snow belt, a snow-covered parking lot can simulate that at slow speeds and safely. It's also valuable to know how your tires howl just before they break loose on dry pavement so that you have the audible safety cue to back off while in a turn. ( I detest tires that break loose suddenly, totally, and without any audible warning.)

 

Huh? What makes you think so? I see cables running to both rear wheels. There have been a few cars in history with parking (or "emergency," if you prefer) brakes that operated on the front wheels, but I haven't heard of any with one-wheel braking.

 

Yes that is what I get on a specific 12km stretch of my daily drive where it is flat, has a speed limit at the Prius most efficient range (around 70-80kph / 40-50mph), and allows me to accelerate gently from a cold start. It also helps we are now at summer temps so your warm up was probably at minimum.

And yes, I can get it average down to 2.9l/100km (81mpg) on that stretch of road if I drive extra careful. 3.1l/100km (75mpg) is my regular average in that section. But when I'm driving on a steady state, my instantaneous display actually shows my consumption at 2.5l/100km (94mpg) with only the ICE driving the wheels.

That is why I gave up on P&G. I've found steady state driving like this gives me the best mpg.

 

Very impressive consumption. If I can have similar regularly, I will be satisfy. Now I totally do not know, what to do with wheels. My 17" summer tires E - for economy rating, are at end of their life - luckily , tires are on aluminium original toyota wheels /not nice, and not ugly also, decent maybe/. Than I have for free new 16" winter tires some nokian ECO, fuel economy -C rating but these are on ugly metal wheel. I like seeing high MPG, that is, why I have prius. I really do not know, what rims, what size to buy. So maybe some 15" rims + new eco summer tires will not look so badly? And + keeping 16" new tires and buy only 16" another rims ? Or I sell those 16 and buy only 2x rims 15" and 2x summer + winter 15 tires. I can not swap summer and winter tires in to the same wheel/rims right? Or are you doing it? Total mess )

 

Sorry guys, I will ask also here. Do someone know, which of these sizes will be better for higher MPG, please and why?

or
6Jx16 ET 45; 195/55 R16 87H

What should be expected additional MPG, if I switch from current 215/45/R17 - 87W - the best rating for fuel economy which I can buy for summer tire is E rating.
If I switch to 6Jx16 ET 45; 195/55 R16 87H for example, there are Dunlop SportBluresponse with B rating, 75Eur price.
What should I expect to achieve with MPG? 3-4mpg on top? thank you

 

Hm, driving my most small trips 27km from cold starts, it was not an accident to achieve 3.1l/100km .... I now keep it constantly up to 3.0l/100km with every of my trip. Today I was quite hurry like last time, with completely cold start. Bum. 3.0
pitty is, I learned how to drive this way, only when my full tank consumption starts bad /like 3.8l/100km etc/ so it will have effect only on my next tank. I am doing P&G all the time and crucial is to start and also finish with FULL batery and keeping it full all the time/5-6 bars all the time/, otherwise I ended up with much worse consumption.

and I am still on 17" E rating for RR /Michelin Primacy HP/ + 2.5l of fuel left in tank, when I go to petrol station and fill it.

I did it, my personal record. 754.3 miles on 10 gallons of gas. OEM 15" tires. No A/C. 100% on eco mode. Mostly on 18 miles trip to and from work, plus short trips here and there. 50% freeway with heavy traffic.

That's pretty good. 754.3 miles with the last fuel bar still visible. Was it blinking? How long did you drive after it beeped?

 

Last bar started to blink at 735 miles with 32 miles cruising range remaining. When I got to gas station, it showed 8 miles cruising range. I always noticed the cruising range always drops more rapidly at <50 miles and even more rapid when <20 miles.
