thanks, yes, for the moment I do not understand it, but never mind, I am satisfy with consumption at all :) By some graphs I found, best mph you are right should be at 25mph/40kmh - I still do not understand it, as it should than by flipping and use battery and ice in high rotating speeds/ICE run too much in low efficiency/, so it shoud average mpg for battery time with infinite mpg and ice with 40kmh speeds/which eats like 6-7liters per100km/ defend of how long battery lasts perhaps it average best mpg. Needs to really test it, but I am surprised this can work /but I believe it will, if someone already test it/. In real traffic it is quite unusefull for me with so low speeds. By my logic and more realistic in traffic, best should be driving with ICE on with his best consumption rate which is at around 45/50mph which will result like 3l/100km for 10-20minutes/20km/ or so to fully charge battery out of village, than village comming long enough to deplete full battery so app /5-6km by my experience in glide mode is very realistic/ and drive it with 0 gas. This repeat till tank is empty and you shoud get 3l/100km consumption for 20km with ICE on and 0l/100km for another 5-6km with battery = this is ratio 3.x:1 ice vs battery = average consumption will be around 2.5l/100km at full tank or 94 MPG /US one/ and this should be done at realistic high speeds 80kmh out of village 50/60kmh at village /average MPH 44/ per tank/. by math :) It should not be far from reality. cheers

Good call Peeto, there was no way you would have made 700 miles at 3.8l/100km. As I've already told you, because of the discrepancy of the Prius computer you should aim for a 3.4l/100km console read out to make the 700mile club.

See....to reach 1120km (700miles) with a 40 liter tank, you need a calculated 3.57l/100km average. Factor in about 4% to 7% computer discrepancy which are reported here in priuschat and you need at least 3.4l/100km to get there.

BUT....you made the 600 mile club. Start with that and post your results at the 600 Mile Club | Page 19 | PriusChat, and just keep practicing and aiming for the 700 mile club.

Added later: Btw, the rules of the mile clubs allow you to overfill your tank to reach your targets. It is generally not recommended so use at your own risk.

Hmm, my prius tank is 44 liters, you can do it with 3.8... My computer error was +0.1, reality was 3.9 which will still meet 700miles. So next tank just switch AC OFF and 750 is doable.

oh wow....I've never checked my manual because I barely could put anything over 39.5 litres and just assumed it is a 40 litre tank.

37.5litres is my most common fill up even after the 2nd click or 3rd click, with 42 litres the max I've ever put in back when I didn't know overfilling was bad and I tried to fill up to the top of the filler to see how far I could go on 1 tank (bad! bad! bad!).

So now I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with my tank (n):(

Yeah :) I will never overfill, 1st click and I am done. If u fill like 38liters, its normal, that is when your cars tell you, you are completely empty. ... actually, you can drive another 150km without thinking of petrol station.

Most of my trips are to and from work, 18 miles one way. Battery does not kick in when >41 MPH, so I try to drive on 25 to 35 MPH roads. No A/C, no quick acceleration, and pulse & guide when >41 MPH.

So last night on the way home I was so close I just drove around until I hit 700 miles (1120km).

It ended up better than I imagined because about 100km before I hit 700 miles my readout started flickering between 3.4l/100km (69mpg) and 3.3/100km (71.2mpg). By the time I hit 700 it was a solid 3.3 (71.2mpg).

I was sorely tempted to go for 800 miles, so I parked, slept on it, and did all sorts of calculations. Best case showed I'd pass 800 easily, but worse case showed I could also be short by 15 miles. I already ran out of gas in my previous attempt to reach 700 and didn't like it too much. Besides I'm fairly confident this was not a one off, that the techniques I learned are totally repeatable and even improved on. So for now, I'm not gonna complain too much making it here :D

    Here's my 700 mile tank at 3.3l/100km (71.2mpg).

Note: Edited to add the mpg equivalents

Oopps. Here's the answers to the requirements:

•A picture of your HSI display with the required number of miles

    700 miles at 3.3l per 100km.jpg

    •A description of your techniques

Initially started with P&G but abandoned it 1/3 of the tank when I couldn't go lower than my usual 3.7l/100km average (63.5mpg). I needed to hit 3.4l/100km (69mpg) to make 700miles.
I shifted to steady state driving at 40-50mph with as little fuel as possible. At that most efficient level I could go steadily for miles using only as little as 2.5l/100km (94mpg) and the Energy Monitor showing only the ICE is driving the wheels and sending extra electrons up the battery.
Using that technique, I slowly brought down my consumption from 3.7 down all the way to the final 3.3l/100km (71.2mpg).

    •A description of your conditions

40 minutes to cover 14.8 miles to the office for 6 weeks thru all sorts of weather, from a few degrees above freezing to 32c degrees. Thru wind, rain and puddles.

There are at least 25 stop signs and traffic lights, 2 roundabouts, a couple of moderately steep incline, and a 5 to 10 minute stop'n go bottleneck. About 5 kilometers are thru neighborhood streets both at the start and end of the trip.

    •Time of year

May to June (early spring to early summer conditions in Canada).
Means I used climate control less than usual but also means I had to use heater at the start,
    then AC later.

•How long you ran on the blinking low-fuel warning light

About 58 miles. Note: My low-fuel light starts blinking at around 36.5 litres (9.6gallons)

After the 700 mile run, my tank took in 39 litres (10.3 gallons).

    Good job! Go for 800?
I started a tank of e0 at 73 mpg, but short hop stuff is dropping it down to 69 or less, so no 800-mile tank for me this time.

Congratulation. I just tealized that my bought car have michelin primacy hp r17 tyres, which are rated only E for fuel economy. So no surprise I can go only like 3.8l/100km per full tank. Once I switch them for r15 with B rating and some light wheels, I hope, with same techniques I can go for 3.4 easily. Cheers

After this, yeah I really think I'd make 800 Robert. Just 2 days after I reset my trip I'm back to 3.4l/100km just driving normally...big difference from the 3.7l/100km (63.3mpg) that was my norm in the last 2 years. So now I really think if I work on it I could go 3.2l/100km (73mpg) just like you, or even lower.

Unfortunately, my oldest already asked me to practice driving with her starting weekend...understandably she prefers learning with my car vs. her moms van. One of my biggest accomplishment in the last 6 weeks was to make sure nobody else used my car at home, ha!..... But here in Ontario, kids are required to practice driving 1 year before they are even allowed to take the driving test. So It's going to be a loonnng year for me.

Yup, that would make a lot of difference. When I bought my car, it came with winter tires which I tried to wear out by using during summer. It was really tough just to get 3.7l/100km back then.

Yeah... I've been teaching her parallel parking, left turns against traffic, 3 point turns, etc etc.

I kinda take it as my only chance to sit with my kid. We do get to talk a lot (and fight a lot) while driving. They can't even walk away if they wanted to, lol.

Rereading your post Robert, I just realize I've been using E10. Man!...that's an area I should consider addressing. Thanks!

Ah, the fond days in the parking lot of our church teaching 2 daughters to drive. Once they mastered the clutch, up and down the empty aisles of the lot.

Patience is the most important skill I had to have.

yep, are yours tires 195/65/R15 one ? I mean this is regular for prius, right? I am going to add R15 and R16 in to car papers officialy, because I can use only R17 right now. Hoping Toyota can confirm this to me officialy and than I can add it there.

I learned that after teaching my wife to drive...after a lot of arguments and she refusing to touch the car for a year after she passed the test. Now it's my wife learning the same lesson with my daughter, lol.
