5K free service - what if I exceed by a few hundred miles

If you have not been to Discount Tire there is one thing that I want to warn you about. At some locations their workers are not careful in that they get in your car with dirty hands and when they open and close you car door they get the side of the door panel dirty around the inside door handle and I hate that. Even Toyota does it occasionally. I put clear plastic around the inside door handle and tape it on with scotch tape and that helps. I am very particular with my cars.

 

I was on a trip from OC to Las Vegas to Mammoth/Yosemite, so I was about 600 miles past 5,000 for the first service. As others have noted, this is basically an inspection and tire rotation. So there's no mechanical implications (unless something was markedly wrong that would have been detected on inspection, and said repair would have mitigated damage caused by the delay).

 

If you check your fluids and tire pressure every gas fill up, you would quickly realize how much a waste of time this is. Then you would know the 5k check up is for nothing more than to get you to go to the dealership so they can sell you more junk you do not need...

 

I got a tire gage and started checking for tire wear...on my 2012 non pip without rotating I did not see any difference between the front and the back after not rotating for 30k miles...now the pip might be different since it has another 100 lbs in the trunk

 

That is exactly my opinion.
