At least for now until you get into the high mileage district ;).

If you are curious and willing to drive several hours northwest of the greater Boston area (or have an oil change due), @m.wynn will be doing some work on Saturday the 29th.

He's peaked my curiosity when I'll be in the area(y).

    Ordered the Advanced model.

You say it has three modes...what do they correlate to on the Beta test unit?

    Hi qdllc,

The advanced units use the same modes as the current round of pre-production units distributed to the Priuschat beta testers last month. Based on the reported results, these modes performed best in comparison to other modes distributed and tested over the last 5-6 months.

In terms of historical correlation, mode 2 in the production units is similar to mode 4 in the device you tested. However, the mode is only half the story. The other half is the underlying performance of the software itself, which improved significantly during the testing.

Pedal Logic sent me a beta test unit back in December and since then I have put 3600 miles with it installed on my first generation plugin Prius.
Most of my driving is city driving repairing photocopiers throughout Tropical Western NY.
The two observations I would like to mention are:
The Smartpedal has been so inconspicuous I forget its even there.
Calculated Fuel Economy has increased 3.1%

    Hi IMkenNY,
Your starting mileage was 74, yes? You're actually the first PIP we've tested in. Glad to clear the high hurdle.

Just out of curiosity (and because I like visual bells and whistles), is there any way to rig some sort of display to show that it's working, or to hook it into an existing display, like a scangauge?

I'm going to pre-order one on Friday (payday) anyway, and the answer to this has no effect on my purchase, but I think it would be fun.

    bobzchemist,

Alas, only our internal test rigs have that capability. I can show you one sometime if you're at a Prius meeting in the Bay Area.

Might be something to consider adding in the future - I'm sure I'm not the only old fogy who thinks that something works better if it lights up.

There is a "light pipe" on the Smart Pedal. But in order to see it, you have to look at the device which is on top of the accelerator pedal.

So it can be checked for functionality, just gotta climb down to see it;).

I have a 2017 Euro Plugin or Prime equivalent. I am sceptical that Toyota themselves haven't included this technology in the car. It seems so easy to achieve an efficiency gain just by processing the pedal input in a smarter way.

Can you convince me otherwise? The mapping feature is not of great interest to me I'm fine with the cars own mapping facility.

Does it have the same benefits in EV mode. Or are they largely seen in hybrid mode when the ICE is in use?
