Unless you're going from a 28 combined MPG corolla. Ill take 55 which will likely be closer to 60 with the right driving habits.

hyo silver ..... I agree with your explanation and expectation. I wonder, however, how much of a factor the tires effect the overall performance of the vehicle. When I shopped for new tires on Tire Rack, I responded to questions about noise,ride, mileage expectation, rolling resistance, and handling in rain and snow. This suggest to me that tire manufacturers make compromises in wet (and snow) pavement handling, noise, and wear characteristics, to achieve lower rolling resistance .... and etc.

 

lrr today probably provide better traction than tires made in the 80s. There are trade offs but they are becoming better.

Let's hope the next generation tires provide even better traction on the prius while reducing rolling resistance. Lighter weight and a lower center of gravity rumored in the next generation prius as well as a better suspension should help handling and stopping distance even if the tires are at 2013 levels.

 

Tires are among the most important parts of any car, and make a huge difference to its performance. Manufacturers would get far better reviews if they put decent rubber on their creations, but rolling resistance often trumps other desirable qualities. Not to mention cost -removing several hundred dollars per car from the profit margin is out of the question.

And yes, every tire is a compromise, or at least a balance between competing goals. There's no way one rubber compound can react the same in all temperatures. All seasons are a reasonable tradeoff in many climates, but the rubber wears more quickly in the heat, and does not grip as well in the cold.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if our national security was as closely guarded as Toyota's? If our military secrets were as protected, and not leaked to the press, as this thread touts and is titled, "sneak peaks" of the G4 ......... but, alas, there are no "sneak peaks."

OTOH, I can't decide if Toyota is that good ..... or the public just does not care? The most recent Consumer Report has several pages revealing (with pictures) the 2014 car offerings ..... but nothing on the Prius.

 

Aside from enthusiasts and managers of Taxi fleets, I think the average American is more interested in the new F150 than the next Prius.

 

Anyone ever been to the Texas State Fair? Each car company has extremely impressive displays showing off their large trucks. There are tons of other cars, too, but trucks get the biggest displays.

This morning I was at the Toyota dealer (brake recall). Naturally, I asked about the 2014. I heard there would be a standard Prius, and larger v and a smaller c. Then he said, nothing much different from your 2010.

Based mostly on that rationale, I have have predicted the 2014 will be a very short model year, with the 2015 (4th generation) making an appearance in early calendar year 2014. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

 

Don't listen to anything any sales guy knows...they have no clue. They will just talk because they can even if they know nothing.

 

Meaning, most people do not actually have opinions about style unless you count what they are used to.

 

Doesn't say when in 2015. So this can be late 2015 and it maybe the 2016 model?

 

On a side note, I noticed the Persona Series is no longer on Toyota's website. I searched the entire southeast Toyota Inventory, and there are only five available and all are labeled available now, there are no future shipments showing up...

 

It was known as the "Special Edition". I'm glad I bought mine over numeric model.. lol..

 

Maybe reveal was a poor choice of words. But I'm hoping info will be out before the LA auto show and then the 14 model will be on display there. Last year was my first year ever attending so I'm not sure how it usually works. Seems odd if the 14 is the last G4 model year and a short year that they wouldn't be selling the 14 very soon. What's the point of having a 14 if they only sell it for 5 Months?

 

They will sell the 14 model until a full year I think. I don't know if they're thinking to not to announce it because of the '14 model - they don't want people to sit around and wait...

You both make valid points .... my ONLY reason for speculating as I did (early calendar year 2014 release of the model year 2015 (G4) ...... is based on the assumption ..... that the MY 2014 Prius will not sell well. There are several other brands that have attractive, fuel efficient, and reliable 2014 hybrid offerings, I am in the market for a new hybrid .... but would not consider a 2014 Prius until I have seen the G4.

We shall see.

 

I think this will always be the cases. Imagine Volt owners, the Volt 2 was announced and is in production though I don't exactly when is the release date. There will always be one model before it, and I think car announcements will usually be one model behind.

Same with Corolla, new one coming, this is your last chance to buy the current gen kind.

Maybe it will be a short calendar year, I sure hope so, but I wouldn't bet on it.
