So, are we going to get another Mickey Mouse steering wheel in 4th gen Prius with the most limited adjustability in its class? How about if Toyota repeats history and witholds the power seat option until the 3rd model year, 2018? Maybe they ought to go for a record and make a 3" offset steering wheel, beating out the Camry's pathetic execution.

 

Is it the same as the Prius Vagon ? If so, fingers crossed that it stays the same.

 

I'm hoping for some improvements. BUT...if it's practicability vs costly, obviously we want a medium to get it to the masses. Which the current Prius C can ALMOST do. So pricing hopefully will stay the same.

 

Yeah, you can improve Gen IV interior to the level of ct 200h; msrp starts at $32,050. I have seen the list of proposed improvements.

 

Since Prius seats are terrible, lets hope the Toyota Boshoku Corp is not invovled.

 

My wife's '08 has always handled poorly. The front end suspension is heavy, Maybe too much unsprung mass. And then the steering feels dead.

 

STOP focusing on only the driver's seat!!!

I would have to slide driver's seat 6 notches (clicks) forward from full back to be properly close enough to the steering wheel, yet I should be maximum only 2 clicks forward. I am 6'2.5" tall with 36" inseam legs and long arms. I measure proper distance to steering wheel if wrist lays over top of wheel with straight arm and no leaning forward from seatback.

How about they start by improving the Gen 4 ergonomics / driver's seating to the level of a Honda Civic for a start, ok??? But, given what came out with the 2012+ Camry, who knows what mess the gen 4 cockpit might be like.

 

I owned the CTh and did not think the interior was so obviously better than my Prius Vagon, and certainly not worth the cost difference. OTOH, I did like the driving dynamic of the CTh a lot.

Perhaps a peculiarity of the way I drive, I was forever annoyed in the CTh by not having a place to rest my right elbow. That is really my objection to cycledrum and his ergonomic rants, by the way: he presumes that his preferences are true for everybody else.

 

Except that years ago, Consumer Reports, Edmunds and others also mentioned 'limited steering wheel adjustment range' .... or 'our taller driver's wished the steering wheel came out farther', etc...

So, your argument is invalid. You think it's only me, it is not.

Do you (Sagebrush) have something to say against the Consumer Reports reviewers comments about the 2010 Prius steering wheel? You don't even drive a 2010+ Prius.

The extra driver's seat travel in 3rd gen Prius is mostly for nothing. Sure, they put in telescopic steering wheel, but it mostly favors the shortest drivers. But, they could wear bigger shoes or put pads on the foot pedals. Driver's with long legs are screwed.

Perhaps they are thinking too far ahead about self driving, because they don't do a very good job on steering wheel placement nor range of adjustablility.

 

Get a rear sway bar and some decent all season tires.

Compare that to your rants declaring that the ergonomics are terrible, and that seemingly the Prius universe is going to blow up from the hordes of Prius owners demanding change in Tahrir square.

it seems suffice to say you cannot adjust the steering to your liking.

If you mention your height, proportions and armspan, people with similar builds might be well served to pay attention to this detail when they test drive the car. As for it being reasonable for Toyota to make the changes you would like, what fraction of the world's potential Prius owners are e.g. tall with short ams ?

 

A turbocharged lean burn engine (leaner than stoichiometric) with DI and Valvematic hopefully.

Tall drivers, beware when test driving Prius liftback.

at 6'2.5" tall, 36" inseam and long arms, I must move 6 notches (clicks) forward from full back with seat to lay wrist over top of steering wheel (see below). At that seat position, my legs are badly cramped. Trying 3 clicks forward, legs still somewhat cramped. Cannot move seatback forward, it's as upright as possible.
Seat travel is there, but steering wheel travel insufficient for me and also noted by Consumer Reports, Edmunds and more.

Fair enough, although I don't know what makes a driving position 'proper.'

I am happy with comfortable and safe. For safe, I do not want to be so close to the steering wheel that in an accident the airbag harms me. I have read that 10-12 inches from wheel to chest is an advised safe distance.

 

I think manufacturers are thinking the same thing: they don't want customers too close to the steering wheel. But, being too far away can also be a problem due to discomfort in arms, lack of steering control.

For me, wrist over top of steering wheel a good gauge.

I must sit closer to the wheel and accept the legroom. If the floating bridge console was not there to rest my knee on I would be putting the car up for sale. The thigh support is mostly gone for me at 3 clicks forward. At least the console is there with a 1/2" small piece of neoprene foam stuck on it.

 

I'm 6 ft and my wife about 5ft 9" and she likes the Seat back considerably more than I.

I drive a lot and I've found if I force my butt back deep into the seat my back doesn't get sore.
Driving slumped in any way is a killer for me for long term driving.
