Care to look up the smart key patent? It was developed by MB and siemens, and patented by MB. My dad through his company was doing some work for seimens at the time. Why are you so angry at Mercedes?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Devices) technology was not patented by MB.

How long before we see golf ball/dimpled exteriors to cut down on drag?

No it wasn't, did I say it was? Smart Key was. It was developed by mercedes and siemens in the late 90s. Like I said, feel free to look it up.

I do not understand why you are bickering. First you make up numbers for your mpg. Then you delibertly twist facts, without reading. Do you have an agenda here.

Yes Joe Toyota could have invented the first car in japan in 1600, but you can look up where innovations come from. TRW patented all the important parts of what became hsd, but toyota had the first sucessful implementation and surrounded it with thousands of patents. It took until after all the patents expired for electronics to catch up, and a car maker to risk money. Would you say toyota had nothing to do with innovation in hybrid, just because the tech was already there for a long time?

    austingreen,

I'm not angry at Mercedes as I am disappointed with you talking about something other than the Prius. A crappy MB you referenced as better than a Prius? Really? I thought this was a Prius Chat board? Instead I see there is a MB fan boy hawking MB products under the guise of appreciating good engineering? Who cares about the Smart Key? What does that have to do with the improvements in the 4th gen prius?

Why was MB introduced in this thread? Because of low Cd and it's fine looking shape, so stop bitching about not having an efficient engine. But obviously this shape does have it's impact on rear row head room, I doubt that Prius is going in the direction of smaller interior space.
If you ask me the new Prius should be a little longer.

You've barely got more than a dozen posts to your name and you're arguing with someone who contributes quite a bit to this forum. If austingreen wants to mention MB achievements in a way that relates to future efficiency then I see nothing wrong with that. The Prius is far from perfect and many of us are not fan boys. We support the best technologies. :)

Well. If the GT86 Hybrid is what aerodynamics looks like, I think I will stay with my 'slug.'
Maybe, you are referring to the 2013 Toyota GT86... several shots later? I could see that as a possible G4 front end.

    Just my opinion.

    F8L,

Sure I have only 8 posts and I read other posters, but I only respond when I see something worth discussing. I understand there is wide variation of posters backgrounds on these threads so I only make comments on topics that interest me. When someone makes non factual comments about a Prius Wanna-be and states it will get better MPG than a Prius using only an ICE, I have to debate this person. Personal opinions I have no issue with, after all it is a 1rst Amendment right. Making comments not based on facts have been tried before, ask Hyundai/Kia, Honda, and more recently Ford.

You say you are not a fan boy of what; the Prius or MB? Unfortunately MB Technology is not synonymous with EVs/Hybrids, MPG, Emissions(Green), or Reliability. The latter (Reliability) is the most important to me.

Yep, the comparison is just not apples and apples. MB is a fine car but it's not a prius, and vice versa.
They can ride on their name as it will be a while before the fans fade.
All cars have fans.... Chevy, Ford, corvette etc etc....

It's not fair to compare a walnut tree against a banana... They are just too different... One bears what the other doesn't.. Both have unique advantages and disadvantages.

Anything can be compared, but expect people on a prius forum to be defensive when statements are subjective....

I have always thought Mercedes were ugly... As far back as I can remember they've never been appealing to me... But some feel that way about prius. :)

I like my 2010. Didn't ever get the park button and shifter in the dash. I like the floating console it allows you to still put stuff below and it's kind of hidden away.

I think the console on the 2010 flows better.
I think it needs a bigger battery for Breyer gas mileage. Battery tech has improved since 2010.
I like the plug in Prius but they don't sell them around here and your paying allot more just for that plug in. If they could come down on pricing some. Also touch screen standard. I had to pay for nav I order to get the nice screen.

0.23 cd in Gen4 Prius won't cost $135k for sure. It should come with Smart Key as well. Toyota is well known for making plausible/sensible technology affordable with the focus on harmony between, man, nature and machine.
