4th generation coming 2015!

I don't know, do a survey. But if anyone needs to work on their house and they don't have a truck, have fun paying $20 to Home Depot everytime you need theirs or $20 plus a $1.09 a mile to U-haul.

Or, let's make it simpler: How would you put a simple 6ft stepladder in a Camry Hybrid? If you live in a single family house, who the heck wouldn't have one of those? Better have a 2nd car besides HyCam. But I suppose alt fuel buyers are supposed to be loaded with dough and have multiple cars around anyway.

 

Hey if it works for you, thats great. I just don't see that as a compelling reason not to consider a Camry over a Prius.

 

I seriously considered a '2015' Camry Hybrid, and it gave me compelling reasons not to buy it. It's for the best. I wouldn't like a car with limited cargo flexibility.

 

Why don't you buy the Prius v? Lots of space.

 

I would be worried on scratching up the interior by trying to load such oversized items, like a ladder or wood, but that's just me. I hate seeing any types of interior scratches.

 

16 ft ladder, no but 8' boards and 10' pvc piping yes.

 

Don't want to give up 5-10 mpg.

Well, when I bought Pearl long ago (but in THIS galaxy) I rejected the Camry mainly because it was "just a car". -I- wanted a flexible vehicle and the Prius was it, -AND- the Camry did not come close to the mileage of the Prius in my view. BTW, the Camry hybrid was, at the time, in Canada, the same price. The two cars were sitting side by side in the showroom.
Since that time I have carried many items in Pearl and Pearl S that the Camry would not be able to hold. One very impressive example was a 54" electronics rack, four poster. Hatch closed! Had to be careful about the rear window of course. Close slowly to test, placed "items" behind the rack to ensure it did not slide back and break the glass!!

So, best mileage of any car type vehicle on the road, YES. Most configurable vehicle, YES.

I hope Toyota doesn't break that!

Not to pick on you, and I do somewhat agree ( I line my interior with a tarp before hauling anything ).

However, this argument sounds a bit like people around here that own pristine, expensive pickup trucks and *never* use the bed to haul building materials, etc...due to the fear of scratching it up. It happens more that you might think..and frankly is pretty silly.

Of course, the fact that some of these trucks cost $50K-60K might have something to do with it!

 

Yeah it's a very handy cargo volume.

 

That if they had a non-hybrid choice for thousands less, they'll opt for a plain vanilla ICE.

People purchase a car for a myriad of reasons. And each one is valid. I readily admit I have lowered the seats, open the hatch, and hauled large items. But, to date, never a 16 ladder, or hay, or long lumber. Back in the beginning of this threat, many bought the Pr because of low emissions and other as a means to "save the planet." I recall being scolded because I mentioned "taking a (non-essential) ride." Another came to my aid, and pointed out that at least I drove an environmentally friendly car.

Obviously, most buy the Pri because of the fuel efficiency. I am older now, and not doing as much hauling, but I cannot see the day I will ever drive a non-hybrid. If I ever need to haul a 16' ladder, hay or furniture, my good neighbor has a pick-up, and he is very generous.

 

Good point. I did pick up a tiny scratch on the A pillar from front of 16ft ladder. Bit of tape would have prevented. I wouldn't recommend going far with it, but Lowes is 1 mile from home.
Just glad to get it home without shelling out for rental. It probably would have gone in the Accord but didn't think to slide front passenger seat forward, then recline seat. Werner 16ft extension ladder is 100 " long, at least the 225 lb. version is.

 

my interior takes a beating. you get over it after awhile, just like dings and scratches.

 

I started scraping and painting the barge rafters on our single story house. They peak at 15 feet up. 16 ft. extension ladder good for that height, unless one is 5 ft. zero. Had pic on cell phone of ladder in Prius, but deleted.
