    It has always been about screen size (from a guy with a 63" flatscreen at home and a 100" projection screen in the basement "theater". ;)

    Why don't they really shake up the market after all these years?

    Make it sexy and gorgeous, and make the Plug In standard! Step it up a few notches and lead. Goodness knows, Toyota has enough experience with both, plus a long time between upgrades.

    A couple of thought:
    I suppose Toyota thought they did that with the 2010, and I think they did. It has been the leader in the hybrid market for years, and certainly since 2010..
    I also suspect that cost is a major factor. I don't know that a "sexy and gorgeous' exterior would cost that much more, but certainly more exotic battery chemistry does, along with many of the other improvements that PC writers are asking for. Specifically, suspension, insulation, deeper seats and performance.
    The Prius has been optimized to achieve the highest fuel efficiency possible at the lowest cost. Weight, aerodynamics, tire friction, ICE, motor/generators, are all components of the design to achieve that goal. Environmental impacts on any of the above, reduce the fuel efficiency, for example standing water on the road during and after a rain shower, or temperature variations.
    I have wondered why Toyota didn't just put, for example, the Camry battery in the Prius. The EV range would be increased, the ICE would run less, and fuel efficiency would improve. Obviously, there is more to the equation that that, I just am not sure what it is.

    If you can get away from the notion that it is ALL about maximum fuel efficiency, the Camry is a much more comfortable, quiet, luxurious land cruiser than the Prius, and the milage penalty is minimal. Don't get me wrong, I have really appreciated my Prius, but I am tired of hitting every road obstacle ( low clearance), as well as worrying about every hail storm (high strength, thin hood and roof).

    I kind of like both. Especially the left one is indeed the "little brother of the Mirai".

    But people don't like the Mirai design, and I thought Toyota said that Mirai and Prius' designs are separate?

    Also 40km/l = 94 mpg ~ 79 mpg US. So huh?

    And what? 70km/l for the PiP which is 164 mpg UK? I don't get it...a Plugin Hybrid can be measured in mpg but are they really saying that it's almost twice is efficient? And yet leaving out how many electric miles? We'll...whatever, all points go to 2.5 weeks.

    The green one looks the same but the blue one looks a bit flatter than the earlier one (see below). It certainly looks fairly aggressive. The green one, not so much.

    "The automaker has fitted the new Prius with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, producing an output of 148 horsepower, which is automated to kick in when extra power is required. Otherwise, it’s one and only electric motor fitted on its front axle allows the vehicle to run for 25 miles and above on electric power throughout. The latest hybrid also offers an impressive 57.5 miles per gallon combined."

    I assume you are talking about the Camry Hybrid. Ok, but there is a BIG penalty to pay in terms of practicality going with Camry Hybrid over a Prius: Yesterday, I brought home a brand new 16 ft. extension ladder IN THE PRIUS. That thing is 100 in. length. That would be completely impossible to put in a Camry hybrid. You'd need to strap it to the roof. Said it before, but a Camry Hybrid probably cannot carry a simple 8 ft piece of 2x4 lumber. That would blow.

    I wouldn't consider a midsize hybrid with trunk unless the trunk was essentially as big as a conventional and the rear seats folded down really well. But, that is asking too much.
