Zythryn - Thank you for the comment. Yes, I know that Lexus has a hybrid, I am just hoping the "supposed" new Prius technology will be applied. I am sure it will.

I also like the Avalon. It is rated at 40 mpg. From what I have read, it is more roomy, and a much quieter ride. I don't think that Toyota sells that many, at least not here in the mountain west. I also don't know if they make a plug-in. A PIA?

Personally, I could get a lot more interested in a plug-in if they went to induction changing. I'm somewhat joking, but I can just see myself settling down to sleep and my wife saying, I forgot to plug in the car.

It is surprising how minor that issue becomes after you have lived with an plugin.
However, there are apps that will send you a reminder if your car isn't plugged in. Plugging in becomes a habit, such as plugging in your phone, or brushing your teeth.

This is also a strength of plugin vehicles. Kind of an EV with training wheels. If you do forget, well, you still have the gas backup. I know a number of people that moved from a Volt to a BEV as they found how much more convenient it is.

what is this 'supposed' new prius technology you're looking for, even though you don't plan to buy one?

From what I have read, a more efficient ICE; a smaller, more powerful motor/generator, and possibly improved batteries. There must be something more than aerodynamics and weight savings if the fuel efficiency is going to be improved, like spoken of on this forum.

BTW. Since my earlier post, I went buy the dealer and looked at the Avalon hybrid. I think that just may be what I will get. I really liked the vehicle. They had a good inventory as well. I think I was wrong about them not being so popular in the mountain west.

yes, there will probably be many small improvements adding up to 10+% fuel efficiency. is it really worth waiting for that to filter down into a lexus? it doesn't really work that way anyway. it's not a whole new system, so lexus will keep improving every year and generation as well. but their focus isn't mpg's as much as prius.

hycam and hyave are fairly new, so it will be awhile before there are major changes. when hyacc starts to gain market share, toyota will be forced to look at hycam.

no kidding. that's why I got the B-class ED after driving the Prius for 30 months. Couldn't stand the constant worry that I would spin up the ICE or the drone of the engine at high highway speeds.

I guess the magazine is all in German. Are you sure about a Gen 4 reveal?

It shows the auto mfr. exhibitors including Toyota of course. Looks like a huge show.

This would certainly slow me down, seriously!

The 60-70 miles is close to what I get for a gallon of gas in this regular Prius.

Thanks. I'm not surprised with a September reveal since the (Donlon?) chart showed 2016 production start November 30 for January arrivals here.
4 months from reveal to arrival Sept '15 to Jan '16

Same as 4 months from Jan 2009 NAIAS reveal and May '09 arrival here on west coast.

November reveal seemed to late for December production anyway.

i hope you know that the 59.9 mpg indicated on the Prius is not representative of your actual mileage, right? Even the most basic comparison against the pump would show you that.

Also, the BED's range indicator is known to be pessimistic. These idiots even managed to have the kWh/mi readout inside the vehicle include charging losses at the wall (!). 85 miles of highway range (89 city) is what the EPA got in their tests. In my experience, driving 53 miles at 75 mph to SF leaves me with 50% remaining or about 51 miles @ 3 mi/kWh.

no, if you go to the spreadsheet, it has a column for miles divided by gallons. i don't always do that well, but non winter is usually close.
