This is very true. I would agree with your statement entirely. Ground clearance is very important in deep snow, doesn't matter how many wheels you have churning for you. Although AWD is a little better on ice than FWD alone.

Especially FWD that cuts all power if a wheel slips (as it does in my 2004 Prius). I then slowly slide down my driveway backwards.

Sounds like someone hates his driveway when there is ice. ;)

To each his own, but I will share my thoughts on the profile depiction of the G4 (which I doubt/hope is not accurate):

I prefer the roof peak that was move further back on the G3 from the G2. Hopefully, Toyota will not move it forward again.
I have no objection to the sculptured side treatment. The side panels would be stronger.
The front end is so short I suspect there would be insufficient "crumple" space to protect passengers legs in a frontal crash. The Prius did not score well in the new front quarter (corner) crash test. Surely the G4 will address that deficiency, and I cannot imagine the solution would be to foreshorten the front.
Finally, no new car will be marketed where the rear brake, turn and driving lights are not visible from the side.

Was at the toyota dealer yesterday to take another spin in the Camry hybrid and saw the 2013 Avalon hybrid and both instantly fell in love.

It's newly designed this year with 200hp basically same performance as the Camry but WOW on amenities, and quietness!
If you can stomach a tad over 40k sticker price if will remove all your gripes about plastic, cheesy dash and doors and excessive noise with amazing curves inside and out.
Luxury of a Lexus at a toyota price as the reviewer states.

We are going back today to take a more serious look.

    How did I miss this?

Yeah, the avalon limited is beautiful and fully loaded will run you about $44k I think. That's with the radar cruise, PCS and wireless phone charging added on.

Dang, Alan. What rock have you been under? :p

My friend just got one. I almost mistook it for a BMW. It doesn't look like a Toyota.

Yea, been preoccupied with new job etc but haven't honestly been looking.

My wife told to just go look at it without her... LOL!
She doesn't want to get any more excited about it if we don't end up getting it.... She's been a good girl and works hard and then comes home and takes care of me.... She certainly deserves it.... We'll see... :-\

Was it? Afaik that was speculation from the article but not direct from TMS themselves. Unless more has come of all this.

Here is the article with interview with Toyota engineer who wanted to remain anonymous. Gen 4 pushed out from December 2014 to Spring 2015.

150 LBS lighter, 4 wheel option, 60 MPG, lower roof, more aerodynamic, smaller engine but more powerful, PIP 20 mile range

    B. Roberts, I like your reasoning. I strayed away from PriusChat for quite a while because I was tired of reading complains about poor acceleration, rattles, plastic, interior noise and etc. My G3 IV (2010) has delivered fuel efficiency, dependability, comfort, and quality .... I purchased with a high expectation from Toyota in these areas, and the G3 exceeded my expectations. I returned to PriusChat to read about the G4. Now I am seriously considering buying a 2014 based on the artist sketches of the G4 I have seen thus far. I still have some time.

I live in the mountains and have never strained on a climb; if the road noise it too great, change the tires; if the snow is deep, I drive my 4 wheel drive vehicle; I have driven the Prius across the country 4 times enjoying fuel efficiency (could not have afforded to go in my other car), comfort (700 plus miles/day), entertainment (great sound system) with plenty of space. Oil, filter and one set of tires is the only reason my G3 has been to the shop.

I feel that Toyota has found the ideal solution for fuel efficiency, dependability, comfort, and quality .... in a vehicle that I can afford. Interesting that no other manufacturer has been able to come up with a better solution without sacrificing one or more of these important components of the equation. I suspect that even Toyota will have difficult making substantial improvements in the G4 without sacrificing something.

Until the day arrives when the family vehicle is a "transformer" and we can, at will, reconfigure the weekday automobile from a fuel efficient run-about into a Porsche on Friday night and Saturday, and a luxury Mercedes on Sunday, I am afraid we are doomed to compromise. We each must find our own compromise that best meets our needs. Fortunately, the manufacturers produce a lot of variety for us to choose from.

Yeah, that's far from an official release though, that was my only point. It may be true, it may not, it's just not official. My guess all along was mid year 2015 as a 2016 model and this dude kind of confirmed it but until TMS says so it's just speculation.

Anything from TMS, a press release perhaps? That's my only point. I can google up some of these too lol. As I said, they may be 100% accurate and discussing it is great but don't portray it as this is what will be just yet.

Based on that article, it appears the Gen 4 will be created off the prius C platform?
    Did I read that wrong?

Presently the C is built from the Yaris platform which is light but a worse ride due to less stability.

Am I jumping to conclusions too much?
