Can't wait to hear details... hints, sneak previews very welcome. I am glad we have proper Toyota representation here in the forum. Fantastic.

Wow must be a boring March in California to wade through 195 pages of commiseration, accusations, pessimism, optimism, brown nosing, and now a slight drool followed by background panting.

I think we're being set up for April Fools Day.

Unless we get solid Prius info at the New York auto show, I'd have to agree!

My birthday is during the New York Auto Show. I think Toyota will announce something there just for my birthday. ;)

Although since I have just purchased a Prius Plug-in, what I'm really lusting for is a RAV4 hybrid.

Wow. We ordered ours on 15th Sept 2004, picked it up Oct 25, 2004 (2005 MY). The 2010 was ordered in July 2009 (it was already in production) and picked up Aug 28, 2009.

My 2001 Prius was not ordered. I just picked it up at the dealership, as it was a demo.

My 2004 Prius was ordered in 2003 (can't remember when exactly), and I picked it up in February 2004.

My 2012 Prius Plug-in was not ordered. I just picked it at the dealership as it was a company car, but as mentioned that was just yesterday. ;)

In Canada, you walk into the dealership and buy the car you want (package, colour, transmission if applicable). If the dealer doesn't have one on the lot, they will find the inventory for you within the province (so they'll look into the database and see if your combination exists at another dealer's inventory. If so, the dealer will do trades amongst themselves). If they can't find one within the province, they'll look for incoming ones on the boat or in production and if it isn't reserved, can reserve it for you. All else fails (e.g. you're buying an early build when the car is just launched and there are no cars at port or at dealerships), you can factory order one with a deposit (nothing large, doable with cash or cheque). If you're on the west coast, it'll take about 5-6 weeks to factory order one. If you're in the east, add time for transit by railway (approximately one-two weeks to Ontario and two weeks to the maritimes).

Dealerships here are small (except maybe in Alberta or Ontario where they'll have large dealerships similar to small-midsize U.S. dealerships) so they usually just carry a handful of each model (unless it's unpopular. For example in Vancouver, V6 Camrys don't sell as well as Camry Hybrids so they'll stock more hybrids. In Calgary, they may stock more V6s than hybrids)

Our 1997 Corolla DX Plus with gold & silver pinstripe in Dark Emerald Pearl was a showroom display car (hence the pinstriping)
Our 2000 Corolla LE in Silverstream Opalescent was shipped from another dealer
Our 2002 Camry XLE Pkg "B" in Titanium Silver Metallic, 2005 Prius Premium Package in Tideland Pearl and 2010 Prius Technology Package in Blue Ribbon Metallic were factory ordered
The smart fortwo passion in black/silver tridion was on the boat or at port in Halifax (can't remember) and was originally in yellow and the panels were swapped out to the black that I ordered.

I think there will be serious price gougings, "add-ons" nonsense initially.

Are you in Vancouver? Or somewhere smaller? In Toronto, some of the dealerships are huge. For example, the dealer where I got my car is over 100000 square feet (not including the parking lot for the cars). And that's just the Toyota Scion dealership. The Lexus dealership was completely separate.

Hi Eug, from which dealer did you get your car? I bought my 06 in April 2006 from Don Valley North, which I know is one of the largest around (and actually lucked into a demo car in the exact package & colour I was looking for, which was unheard of in 2006, when most Canadians didn't even know what a Prius was.... ;-). Btw... I know a fantastic independent Prius mechanic in Concord if you need one in the future. ;-)

But I digress, as this is completely OT.

However, I do keep an eye on this thread, as I am planning to upgrade when the 4th gen comes out, hopefully for a plug in (which sounds to be an even longer wait...), as I drive a ton for work (343K km and counting....). Love this car!

Congrats on your new car. :)

There really was an offer to preorder. I don't know if there was much, if any, of a price break. Here is a link to an old discussion about it:

There must be some current forum member who was in on it and remembers the details.

As one of the folks invited to that event, there was a discount, if we were interested. But, we were instructed to not disclose the details. IIRC, the consequence of leaking might jeopardize future deals.

At the time, I declined so I never got details of the discount (nor did I ask fellow attendees). My 06 Prius wasn't even 3 years old at the time of the Gen 3 intro, so I wasn't in the market for a new car. If I had a significantly older Prius, I'd have definitely been more inclined. If I showed interest or purchased, well... I wouldn't be allowed to say the amount of the discount.

Now my 06 Prius is past 9 years old...

Also, at the time of the event in January 09, the trim levels and options weren't finalized. I believe we were told that the 3 units and their options, wheels, etc. we saw also weren't necessarily representative of what'd actually go on sale. I don't think we knew the MSRP either.

Personally I'm fine with Toyota's marketing team here.

And no, I don't work for Toyota.

I am not the moderator But I think some of the comments are inappropriate. It was nice of the Prius Team to stop by and say Hi!

Sorry if you think that was bellyaching. It was not meant to be.
As a loyal prius owner who has owned 4 Pri, I was saying I am ready for the new one.

I think it was nice too. And now I can't perfectly remember what Felt's comments were before they were deleted, but what I remember of them was a suggestion that PriusChat is a strong community of enthusiasts and likely repeat purchasers, and could probably be an asset of even greater advantage to the Prius Team if the Team could find any sort of more forthcoming way of involving and informing us, and Felt hoped that if the Team was visiting here, maybe they could take that message back to wherever such decisions get made.

At least, whatever it was Felt wrote exactly, that's what my brain turned it into, and it seemed constructive at bottom to me, even if it also conveyed some frustration over not knowing anything about the car yet! :)

Thank you ChapmanF.. You captured the essence of my message, only you said it better than I did.
