Weird. We have had the 2017s for several months.
A major change is standard TSS-P. Many of the safety features on my Trim Two were only available in 2016 on Trim Three ans up as part of an optional package.

AFAIK The Brits aren't calling it the 2017 model. At least my dealer had no news of it when I got mine. Perhaps it's just an American thang!

The "2017" isn't available in the UK currently, and won't be for another few months as far as I'm aware. I'd have still picked the 2016 given the choice, 4 seats in the 2017 is an instant dealbreaker!

I think you are confusing the 2017 Liftback with 5 seats with the plugin Prime that has 4.

In the UK, it's based on the year bought and the licence plate. That's why there are users here with 2009 Prius that are Gen 3 owners. You have to see where they're from.

It also means there are 2009 owners that are either Gen 2 or Gen 3 owners depending on when they bought it o_O (am I right, UK members?)

Also, aren't they 66 plates now?

Does that also man there are some 201 owners that are Gen 3?

    What are 66 plates?

Clearly :D I assumed you were referring to the plug-in hybrid, my bad.

We only have the 'New Prius' (Gen4). We don't have separate 2016/2017 models, so I've ordered the most recent Prius on the market here.

In US, what's the difference between the 2016 & 2017 models? Is it mainly the toyota safety sense bits & pieces? I think they come as standard on the trim level I've picked. Do you guys get a new Prius every year?

We have new licence plates issued twice a year that apply to new cars. Any car registered between Sep 16-Feb 17 will include 66 on the licence plate, as mine will do. Mar 17-Aug 17 will have 17, and the following period is 67.

Mainly the added safety features. They apparently also improved the headlights according to one rating.

It's not an exaggeration to say the built in sat Nav is far worse than the ones shown in top gear.
"Maniac" Prius drivers would be fun though.

When a new car/motor vehicle is bought for road use in the UK, upon payment of the statutory taxes our Driver Vehicle Licencing Agency ( DVLA) issue it with an individual 'Registration Number'. This consists of two letters, two number and another the letters, eg: AB58XXX where AB are the designators of the national region, 58 means it was first registered between February and September 2008 and XXX are random letters to form a unique combination of the the group's. From the database of this, law enforcement and others can identify the vehicle and it's keeper and whether the current road tax had been paid and even if it is insured (and regularly maintained after the first three years).

That's an awful lot of big brother oversight!

So when would manufacturers in the UK roll out the updates? (e.g. in the US, they added TSS-P as standard equipment on any vehicle with a "2017" model year attached to it).

If there is a modification to the model in UK, it's released along with a major revision, or like States-side with a specific year identifier. The year is not always the definitive for minor upgrades and changes.

And when are major revisions typically launched? January? or Feb 18 with the new plates?

I believe so, but I'm not really a motorhead. It's just the company I keep on here that lead me astray.;)

The 2016 will be MY2016 until the next facelift, the Gen 3 was MY2009 then MY2012 for the facelift.
    (MY = Model Year)
