    It does get easier and quicker after each time.
    And it you clean up the original cooler, it's even faster and less messy!
    Pressure washer, oven cleaner....

    Looks like I can't vote twice..
    • 2010 liftback with 122K miles - moderate oil consumption.
    • 2012 Prius v (wagon) with 160K miles - no discernible oil consumption.
    BTW - I voted the 2010. (y)

    Multiple votes are allowed but I think it’s one vote per member (but multiple choices can be selected).

    Also it says voters are allowed to make changes so maybe deleted your vote @farmecologist , save (or close the thread) then come back and vote again

    Should. A while back I queried pistons and rings for various Prius v years (at McGeorge Toyota Parts), and the revised part numbers showed up for model year 2015:

    Looks like Toyota will use this survey to show prius callers real world data when they call to complain, “no our gen 3 Prius only experience minimal oil loss, you just didn’t follow maintenance intervals or you drive abusively and that’s why your oil loss is severe

    Frankly, after a while, most of us just give up on trying to mitigate light to moderate oil consumption....just not worth it.

    Our 2010 consumes oil and we've lived with it for around 4 years now. The only thing I worry a bit about is that the car is pretty much my daughter's car now...and she is auto illiterate ( believe me, I've tried but she has zero interest). Seems like a lot of 'kids' these days are not all the handy and just want things to work. :rolleyes: My son is similar but not as bad as my daughter.

    BTW, our 2012 Prius v wagon has significantly more miles than the 2010 and doesn't consume a noticeable amount between oil changes. Luck of the draw? I have no idea...but it certainly is strange. (y)

    She'll learn to do basic stuff to keep the car a live...

    I agree. Our current Prius is the first car we've had that (so far) consumes zero. All our previous hondas consumed somewhere between a cup and a quart between changes. Never got out of hand though.

    I bought it with 28k on it in 2013.
    Initially, consumption was about 3 qt every 5000 miles. I mentioned it to the dealership multiple times before the warranty ran out.
    I'm at 198,000 miles and consume a quart every 800-1000 miles.
    I'll buy a few boxes of Farm and Fleet 0w20 when it goes on sale. I have at least one box in the car at all times.
    Note: I've mastered the zero-spill oil pour!

    Thread looks a little old here but I just "inherited" my wife's 2015 Prius Four after getting her a new Rav4 hybrid. It has 173,000 miles on it and we have not had a single issue with it, until just recently we had the engine rattle a couple times for 1-3 seconds on cold start (after moving the car a short distance and shutting off right away mid cycle). So that caused me to start researching. Up until this point my wife was taking care of the car herself (aka dealer maintained), so it has had oil changes every 10k miles and had all the other official recommended service. It does not use any coolant and does not burn any oil at this point, now that it is "my car" I plan on oil changes every 5k miles and will be doing the egr cleaning this week. I also am replacing the intake manifold with the updated part # and doing pcv replacement, coolant drain/fill, spark plugs/coils (since I will be in there and there were some issues with the dealer that leads me to believe they charged us for spark plug replacement at 120k but never actually did it) and transmission drain/fill. I will also be checking out the cylinders with a borescope to check for head gasket issues. Still on original battery showing good health on my obd scanner (not sure how accurate but planning to try out the Dr Prius app this week as well)! Will hopefully have updates next weekend!

    I'd just clean what you have, that intake manifold revision isn't worth much. Good to replace the intake manifold gaskets (info of my amayama purchase attached, shipping added $14.47 CDN for me) though.

    Cleaning the full EGR system, including the EGR passages in intake manifold, is well overdue. The EGR cooler is likely carbon-choked. Still, head gasket condition would be first priority:

    Considering the miles and symptoms, head gasket could just be starting to let go. Boroscope inspection (preferably with coolant system pressurized) and/or leak-down test are the usual diagnostics.
