You don't need to replace whole exhaust system, most likely just the one cat converter that's throwing the code. Find an independent shop. LG-TP260 ?
You could probably find a pretty good quality used Gen3 (2010+) for maybe only a little bit more than it would cost to fix your current one.
I’m all for keeping the old girl going, but here is the reality. If you KBB or NADA The value of your car, you will find the car to be $1000 at best as is. If you put $5400 into it, it’s not going to be suddenly worth $5,500. It might raise the value to $2500-$3000. If, you plan to drive it till it drops then by all means go for it. iPhone X ?

Hey Karin my 2005 has 490,000 miles. My wife just got a 2009 so she could benefit from all I’ve learned. I’d fix yours. Not with a $3000 battery (I did that once) I’d get your battery rebuilt chances are yours is like 80% of the failing batteries the number 8 cell has gone bad. Get a few new cells at $50. each take to a good independent Prius mechanic and roll iPhone ?

My 2004 Prius just "froze" its odometer at 299,999. Is this a known issue with the Gen 2 ?. Traction battery is original. replaced (2) 12 volt aux batts. I've replaced front / rear suspension parts, air conditioner evap. and condenser coils, hybrid synergy drive module at 225,000 (from a "totalled" 2007, with 68,000 on it), exhaust system "stem to stern" at 295,000, injectors at 230,000, and HV coils at 165,000. Regular changes are "differential fluid", PCV valve, spark plugs, all at 100,000 intervals, along with other routine stuff like filters, tires, HID lamps etc. Best damned car I've ever owned...... I'm tracking the mileage beyond 299,999 with one of the trip odometers. Any fix for this? I DO have the "Techstream Light" software but nothing on resetting ODO ( no surprise, it's a legal / fraud issue to reset an ODO) Thanks. Ed
Yes, it’s normal on 04 & 05 MY’s Congratulations on getting to that milestone with the original HV pack. If you are a DIY’r, you can buy a replacement used Display from 06-09 yrs and have the mileage flashed at 300k or what you feel is accurate and keep climbing too 999,999 There is a link in post earlier in this thread that has all the info about where to get them and how to do it. My 2004 Prius recently joined the "Odometer Stuck At 299,999 Miles" club. Tracking additional miles with one of the trip odometers. I am the original owner. Here are as many details as I can think of. All work by me except where noted. All parts are Toyota OEM, purchased by me. 1) HV battery pack is original. 2) Trans-axle fluid replaced at 100,000 miles, then about every 60-80-K miles after 3) PCV valve replaced at trans-axle fluid changes 4) Spark plugs changed at 100,000, 200,000, 280,000 miles 5) Shocks, struts, coil springs and misc. suspension items replaced (by local speed shop) at around 180,00 miles 6) Coolant pump for Hybrid synergy drive module replaced (by my mechanic) at about 170,000 miles 7) Hybrid Synergy drive replaced at about 210,00 miles. It had overheated due to coolant pump failure, at around 170,000 miles, and developed an intermittent problem in the "main" drive motor's current sense circuit for one "phase". Replaced with an HSD module, pulled from a totalled 2007 with about 70K miles on it, for $350.00 8) All coolant replaced when Hybrid Synergy drive module was. "UView Airlock" coolant removal and leak check system was a big help. 9) Coolant recovery valve and pump replaced when Hybrid Synergy module was: each of them had failed. 10) Injectors replaced at about 235,000 miles. Mileage improved tremendously, back to about 45 MPG from high 30s 11) Air conditioner condenser coil replaced (by my mechanic) at about 160,000 due to damage / leak from road debris. 12) Air conditioner evaporator coil replaced( by my mechanic) at about 230,000 due to leak from corrosion. 13) Exhaust pipe with cat converter, and muffler replaced (by my mechanic) at 286,000 miles. Muffler was shot, cat converter didn't quite pass emissions this time. It had barely made it through last year.... 14) 12 volt system battery replaced at about 150,000. 15) Brake pads were replaced at about 170,000-180,000. 16) I use Quaker State 5W30 "High Mileage" oil.
Yes, definitely, from 35-36 to 44-46 MPG. Most dramatic improvement to the vehicle (other than replacing the bad HSD module.) And although I can't quite explain it, my oil consumption has decreased as well. Mileage improved in about two tank fill-ups. At least two injectors caused mis-fires so I figured it was time to replace the group of four.
