Well I’m new but I’ve got 349,xxx. The car has issues though. I’m going to start a new thread for it though.
And now she broke down on my nice person. Combo meter or inverter cooler pump seem to be the best choices so far. I’m researching now. I hope I can get another 50000 out of her
I got a wrecked “total loss” for $1000 and swapped out the engine and transmission it was the easiest engine swap I’ve ever done. iPhone ?
If you don't mind me asking, how do you drive that much? What do you do professionally? Did you have this from new?
How's the front lower control arms? Alignment couldn't be done on mine with 235,000 because of the worn rubber. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I got it for Father’s Day 2005 brand new and let the dealer service it for 30k then I took over with the help of Lexolology in Redondo Beach. I purchased a home in Fresno Ca, 266 miles from my home in Redondo. I commute from one to the other working a 4day week it costs $16.00 each way if gas is $3/gallon about 40,000 miles each year, and drive to Florida, Washington,Yellowstone, for summer vacations. I never thought I would own a car with these many miles on it! Then when I did I kept wondering how it could work so well?? Sure, I financed the car and paid nearly $40,000 for it including interest so I started out in the red but my previous Ford got 1/2 the mileage if I hadn’t bought this car The gas alone would have cost me $35,250 more. Can you imagine a Ford Escort Wagon with 470,000 miles? iPhone ?
No, I’m still driving it! I got a wrecked one for $1000 for parts when my engine died at 390,000 miles I swapped it out. iPhone ?
I have a nearly identical commute scenario as yours (285 mi) every 4 days. I’m at 271k w/ Original pack on my 05. I bought it in fall of 13 with 123K ( I let sit for 13/14 Winter) It has been my Daily driver since April 21 2014. If all continues to go well I’ll be an official 299,999 er in December. I plan on swapping the cluster for the 06-09 version at that time. iPhone X ?
New to the forum: I've owned this car since 2011. It currently has 363,000. It had 80,000 on it when I purchased it. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? I'm not the original owner, so I can't say for sure. However, I can't imagine that it would've been replaced prior to 80,000. 2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? It's been changed once. 3) Did you replace the brake pads? Both front pads and rear shoes have been changed once. 4) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Not official, but I'm comfortable estimating an average of 43mpg. 5) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Every 5-6k. I use 5w-30 Castrol GTX or Toyota...depending on if I change it or have it changed. 6) How about post a picture of 300,000 miles on ODO? 7) Are you the original owner? Answered above. 8) How many miles under your ownership? Approx 283,000 9) Feel free to add anything else you wish to share Knock on wood, this has been the best car I've ever owned. The only failure I've had thus far is the left front wheel bearing. I think the water pump was replaced under a recall. My mileage is 95% highway at 65-70 mph. It does use some oil...approx 1qt/1200 miles. The battery is weak, but it's only a problem when driving in stop and go traffic...basically the car runs a lot more than it used to at stop lights. Not sure how much longer I'll keep it, but likely won't hit 400k.
1 qt every 1200 miles is pretty high. At that rate, you are doing an ongoing oil change by adding 25% new oil every 1200 mi or a complete oil change by volume every 4800-5000 mi. At that point, you might consider just doing Filter changes every 5000-6000 and move complete oil changes too 10-12k intervals. What part of the country are you in? iPhone X ?
I live in central North Carolina. I'm not crazy about the amount of oil it's using, but it seems to run ok. I'm honestly just trying to squeeze as much as I can out of it before I buy a newer car. In reading a lot of the other posts, it seems like I'm not alone on the oil consumption.
Try some Lucus oil treatment. See if it helps with the oil consumption. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Never be tempted to extend that logic to justify never doing complete oil changes, though. Crud accumulates in the sump, oil still breaks down over time (the remaining 75%), and doing a complete oil change ensures it gets removed and refreshed. You can kill your engine by only adding oil to top up and never doing an oil change.
