This thread has almost made up my mind on keeping my prius(buying out right) when the lease is up in 32months lol. In the 4months ive owned her i have put 13k miles on the car. So, in a few years I might be with u guys!
If an owner with an earlier 2G wants to maintain the odometer readout beyond 299,999 miles, maybe s/he can do so by having a current-design combination meter installed and programmed to start at 299,999 or whatever the current reading should be.
I wonder which models are affected. We now ruled out 2009 now. If only 2004 and 2005 models were affected, I think Toyota should do a SSC to replace them.
Just to be clear, 2 fas 4 u sent me that picture to post. It was from his 2009 Prius. He should be given the credit.
I posted this a while back. The odometer wiil go past 300,000! http://priuschat.com/forums/generation-1-prius-discussion/74388-lots-miles.html
Thats from a 1st generation prius. If you google 299,999 miles you will get a lot of posts in many different forums about toyota and the pontiac vibe(which is a toyota matrix). I have been at 299,999 for quite a while now. If anyone lives around north houston and is interested in seeing the odo, let me know.
That's not bad for an engine with that many miles on it. To be safe you should top off (about a pint) at about the mid-point of your oil change interval. What weight oil do use use "2 fas 4 u". Do you use xW20 or xW30?
oh great!! so my Pri will start using oil when i hit 300,000 miles...yep about time to get rid of it and get something new!!
Was using 0w-30 synthetic from walmart for over 100,000, and just recently started using 5w-30 high mileage synthetic from walmart both are mobil.
I gather the Euro blend of Castrol 5w30 synthetic is a bit more viscous than most other synthetics. Perhaps it would be enough to stop the drip yet stay on the extended change interval.
Update: 312000 I am trying to pass 345000 from the guy who had the 2001 prius I believe. That is the only one i saw with the pic to verify. If there is someone else who has pic proof of mileage higher than 345000 let me know. ALSO, for those who change their oil every 10000 with synthetic, i was using oil filter 14467 and found 14477 which is the same size but 1 inch longer, so far no effects. With 14467 i was down 8 ounces at 3100 I am at 1600 now will let u know if 14477 will slow down my oil consumption.
I really am enjoying following this thread. We, europeans, don't usually travel so much as a commute, so is kind of strange watching odo numbers rarely seen here. Please continue, don't stop...
