UPDATE: 425600 Almost done, and for what does anyone really care but me, I dont even think I care. What do I get a thanks, a pat on the back, keep up the good work. I bet u my 2009 Prius is probably worth $2500.00 Talk about depreciation at its best. Anyway its been fun, tiresome need a vacation bad, and again thanks for the encouragement. Next post 430001 and Im done. Prius V here I come.
Update: Ok so I lied, cant keep u in suspense, not fair. 426200 will update every day because I like u guys. Anyway its only 4000 more.
2fas4u, Thanks for the updates! I can certainly understand the attraction of the Prius wagon since you sleep in the car every day, but your wallet would sure thank you if you kept this car until it broke. With a bit of luck you could buy your next car with much reduced or no financing and not have negative equity growing like a fungus on your life. No more sh1t from dealers offering you MSRP+ prices No more 10% interest rates No more being told by the car insurance company how much to insure the car for Think about it. Anyway, all the best ! The Combo meter can be a really cheap repair.
Thank you very much for your information - keep posting and I'm hoping you make it. I'm not entirely sure I would have bought mine if I hadn't been following your exploits. We drive a lot but not anything like what you do, and before reading this thread to my other half, he had concerns about getting a Prius. We've had the car for 3 weeks and I couldn't be happier. So thanks again for your saga, it's been great!
UPDATE: You guys aint right at all. Sat 11:30 pm on my way home from daytona meter went out again, temps dropped to 50 deg. Lost another 30 miles. Hopefully it should come on when temps warm up. Im lookimg at about 800 miles this weekend. Dont know about u but the suspence believe it or not is killing me big time.
So when the display goes out, you say you "lose xx miles". Does the odometer not tally the miles while the display is out? So really you're about 500 miles more than the odometer says? If you don't have a ScanGauge, I'd get one. You can set it to show your speed (among other things) so you still know how fast you're going. And your miles for the day, so you can verify how many miles were lost, if that's what's happening. It's about $160, you can buy it here at PriusChat, among other places.
ScanGauge won't help. Combo meter reports speed over the BEAN network to the Gateway ECU which transmits to other ECUs over CAN bus.
Does not tally miles. Since I do so many it doesnt matter to keep track. I just keep up with traffic so not to get a ticket, I also have a speedometer on my Droid X its off by 1-2 mph. Im going to get it fixed I just wanted to reach 430000 first. When its hot out it works fine, but when the temps drop thats when I have a problem. I'd say im closer to 1000 miles uncontested. UPDATE: If anyone else is having this problem, and u are concerned (on fixing it) if u want I can keep driving like this to see how many miles before it will cause damage to something else. Just a thought.
2fas4u, How does your work pay you for your car use? By the mile, or a fixed amount? Do you have to file with the IRS for additional savings ? Apologies if I am intruding into personal matters.
I get paid per run per day ( runs are determined by miles and tolls ) no work no pay. Just so happened that this run, turned out to be a route. As far as IRS u can either file 2 ways u can tally all expenses at end of year or u can tally accumaleted miles, which ever is greater. UPDATED: meter came back on after having to disconnect battery, made it to miami and back. 426900
Thanks, In your case then, a broke mileage meter costs you money, right ? Come to think of it, are you saying you both bill the company, AND file a car related tax deduction ?
Every time someone starts giving me heat about the batteries, I link them to this thread. As Flounder once said, "This is great!".
I get paid by the company I work for at the end of the week, for the route I do weekly. Lets say my engine blows and transmission fails, im out $10,000 I could claim that on my taxes as a loss of income, or if my mileage total at the end of year is more then I can choose which one I want not both. The IRS give truckers or independant contractors I believe 40- 50 cents per mile, as a deduction, if u use your own vehicle. If its company vehicle, the company makes the claim. If I was driving taxi then I would need meter. UPDATE: 427100.
