$220 extra charge for the blizzard pearl color???

I don't want to argue with anyone who cannot perceive the clear color difference between "plain white" or a "white wash" and Blizzard Pearl, but I truly do not understand anyone not being able to see the clear difference. I think that under some limited lighting conditions, you will not see the pearl white but under most lighting conditions that I have experienced, you will. It is clearly different and noticeable. Whether you like it better or not, is another question.

 

Whether or not we (Prius lovers) can distinguish the difference, most "other" people will not. When I was hunting for SBM or Blue, all I could find in the PDX was BP. Every time I saw it, I "forgot" it was not white. SO it really is pretty in the pictures on this site, but from accross the parking lot, whether I or the mases are looking at it. That said, my blue is challenging as its pretty but a dust magnet and shows every fingerprint...I really wanted the light green (pine) that was available last year but alas, apparently Toyota does not feel the need to offer a "green" green car every year

 

I disagree about the "masses" not being able to distinguish. Every single person that has seen my car has commented on the "pearl white" or "metallic white" is another comment I've gotten.

I also agree with Tideland, the pearl on the Lexus is overly exaggerated and almost looks purple.

 

$220 may be a little too much for an extra layer of paint, but fact is the Blizzard Pearl really worth the investment in my opinion because:

- It does look great in the Prius design, very elegant and classy; no wonder Toyota has chosen it for marketing
- it keeps the car cooler in sunny days, so the A/C will have an easier job to keep the temperature set on auto mode, and therefore, less compromise on fuel efficiency
- "white" color cars always look new, as they hide dirt pretty well and scratches are hard to see

 

Its actually cost 179 for the Bpearl white, just ask your dealer to give you their factory rate, I asked them for Bpearl white and I told them that I would only pay in factory rate since I'm their special customer that is purchasing two car at the same time xD

 

Here in Canada, Volvo dealer asks for $790 (before tax) to upgrade the paint from plain white to metallic silver. So $220 is a good deal to me for my prius.

 

"Pearl" paint is really like a pearl, in that you can't see a "surface" where the paint is. It appears "deep" such that you can't tell how "deep". You also get almost "crystal" reflections from it.

Unfortunately, modern water based paint and production painting result in "orange peel" (the rough surface of an orange, but not so obvious). The pearl effect helps hide this, but a bright light held close to the paint and viewed from close to the surface will show it.

It's still beautiful, it just irks purists.

 

A friend works for hyundai and he says they charge a similar premium for their pearl white.

The only drawback I can think of, besides the constant envious looks of other Prius owners who failed to get pearl white, is that it can be difficult to see where you've applied wax while detailing it. But that's a small inconvenience for having such a beautiful paint job! :cheer2:

 

The 2 triple coat metallics that Ford offer on the Fiesta is a $395 upcharge.

Our regular metallic was not but apparently the triple coat adds some time.

 

Strange to me how automotive colors seem to go through popularity cycles. I remember the mid 90's when everything seemed to be Metalic Forest Green.

Right now "White"...Blizzard Pearl or otherwise, seems to be at a Zenith of popularity.

 

I think the Ford Lime green is going to be huge too, I have noticed that a lot of companies are coming out with a green subcompact.

Glad ours is a lease so if every other car is green I can just turn it in!!

 

The other drawback is getting it repaired. It's harder to match when a panel is painted and you can't do a good looking chip repair.

Good body shops can deal with it.

 

LOL. Yes! You are right. My parents dark green Volvo sedan in 1994.

In the early 2000s, the popular trend was dark metallic gray.

White is always popular but especially now during tough economic times. White symbolizes mimimalism and also cleanliness, fitting with the trend to be green and efficient. FWIW, in Chinese culture, however, white symbolizes death. White also ages poorly, along with red. Nevertheless, people who love white cars will love their white cars.

Black is always the best color though IMO. High maintenance but when waxed it's a mirror. Everybody should own a black car once in their lifetime.

We were hoping for blizzard pearl, actually would have preferred plain white, but succumbed to opportunism: there was grey Touring model sitting on the lot (exterior looks like US V model), and found it looked pretty good too, in a more subdue look. Went with that

 

The Blizzard Pear looks totally different with the solar package then it does on a car without the solar package. I know the paint is the same but the car looks totally different. For the record it looks better with the solar package and tinted windows. (mine)
