Featured 2025 Camry HEV debuts, priced lower than the previous generation and only $450 higher than the Prius

    this is a huge improvement in tank size over our '24. we had to stop two extra times on the way to florida due to the small gas tank.

    Weird -

    Never one mention of the great mileage of the cars - the choices they give the average person - the impact on curbing pollution with their high mpg and miserly use of gas - the wonderful engineering job and success Toyota has done on bringing these cars to the market.

    I know let's start an argument on BEV's vs ICE where none exist - ridiculous.

    Your avatar is certainly appropriate and descriptive - I'm done though, time to till the garden.

    The article was speculating using the current ICE model's tank size. They haven't posted the new. Even if Toyota sticks to the size of what you have now, that is still over 500 miles of range before the low fuel light comes on.

    I though my 2005 Prius had wonderful engineering. Just always wondered why it took Toyota so long to spread it to other models.

    Then we don't have any actual engineering details on the new Camry. Appears to use the 2.5L engine that's in the Crown. It is larger on the outside, but so is the Crown, and that is smaller inside than the current Camry. I'm sure we'll hear disappointment about the mpg figures.

    Is the new Camry a more direct competitor to the Accord? Will it have something compelling over the old Camry to help the loss of sales to SUVs? We simply don't have the info from the partial spec sheet Toyota has uploaded. The website engineering here has been lacking.
    You did that with the range anxiety comment.
    I just pointed out what tank range actually means to most people, and how a BEV can be a plus in that regard.

    I'm real curious about tank size and location, given that they've used the underseat area for the hybrid battery, under-trunk reserved for AWD kit, back corners used for exhaust muffler and evap canister... Under the front seat like a Honda Fit maybe?

    Possibly. That would make sense. And Toyota has been shrinking the gas tank size with every improvement in mpg. Why carry all that weight when you can use efficiently.

    Meh, here is my blue 2021 Prius Prime Limited. Add a 35-mile BEV range plus the gasoline reserve on top of that. It's all with an 11.4-gal fuel tank and an 8.78-kWh battery.

    Not in LA, where the average single-family house with a garage to plug-in your EV is priced at over a million dollars. So, on the contrary, it takes a lot more trips to fuel stations if you have a BEV—not to mention much longer waiting to refuel.

    If BEVs were that practical, they would be selling like hotcakes and no one would buy an ICE vehicle anymore. Unfortunately, at the moment, the opposite is the case, and that's why the BEV transition has hit the brakes, which is all over the news.

    The current hybrid has the battery under the seat, and the fuel tanks sizes:
    ICE FWD - 15.8gals
    ICE AWD - 14.4gals
    hybrid - 13.2gals
    and the Crown's - 14.5gals
    Don't recall any news about the Crown placed the fuel tank, but the Fit having it under the front seat was made a big deal of.

    The electric AWD system takes up less space than a mechanical one. I think the tank will stay where it is at, and will be in the 11 to 13 gallon range. Maybe a different one for the FWD and AWD.

    Do all the other homes have street parking? Cause you don't need a garage for a charger.

    Hitting the brakes means the segment's sales growth rate went from 90% to 45%.

    Of course, most apartment and condo buildings have on-site parking for most of their residents. However, few of those have on-site EV charging. The only way it would work is if the residents have garages with outlets connected to their watt–hour meters or the management provides outlets/free EV charging at a common parking area—both of which are rare. As you know, you can't simply use extension cords coming from your unit to charge your EV.

    I think I missed that, meaning the XV70 Camry hybrid. Thinking back, the last time I rented one would've been the XV50 body. The battery was still sort of under-behind the rear seatback, kind of like in the Prius liftbacks.

    sounds good unless you had a previous generation that got 640 miles. we used to make it from boston to virginia, virginia to georgia and georgia to florida. not anymore.

    The Outback has a 18.5gal tank. I might get it to go that far with care. I still would need to stop at around 300 miles for other reasons, if not sooner. So I just get some gas then. Having to only get gas once every two weeks with typical use is more impactful to me than filling less often on a long trip.

    IIRC, all my other cars could go over 400 miles before reaching the low fuel warning or the quarter tank mark. I can think of cases where that could be short enough to be some type of hassle, but is plenty for the majority of car users.

    In addition to the weight and space savings of having a smaller tank, there is also the safety advantage of keeping the tank out of harms way or even carrying less energy dense liquid. Is another 100 miles of range worth a gas tank behind the rear bumper?

    exactly. And that front grill. I expect a lot of buyers will be shifting their front plate.

    I did take a look, at the high-res pic of the dash: car manufacturers just don’t get it, that it’d be nice to be able to adjust cabin temp, vent mode and fan speed, without going off the road.

    not that our ‘10 is any better, but at least it’s the devil I know.

    Is anyone else having issues with the Camry site. The top video and loading is jerky for me.

    The trim overview section also lists different prices than the full spec page for the higher trims.
    From the press release, it looks like your Xtrims are AWD only. That is a $1525 charge down here.

    Aren’t the climate controls similar to the Gen 3? Although I think they lack the dips and raises that the Gen 3 had on some of its buttons.

    In line with what they charged for the mechanical system. My guess is that this is paying for keeping the starting MSRP low.

    Yeah, the monster grill is almost on every Toyota and Lexus, and that's one thing I don't like and understand about Toyotas and Lexuses.

    Gen 5 Prius escaped from the monster grill for the most part by adopting a fish-mouth grill.
